Hi chaps,
I was wondering if there are any affordable tuning options around for increasing the power of the Boxter S? Is the ECU suitable for a custom re-map? I know the Ruf version is a lovely thing, and Porsche should make one, but it is quite dear. Is 280 BHP possible for reasonable money? It strikes me that the rest of the car is up to handling 300 BHP easily. I don't think that releasing extra power would mean revising the brakes/chassis at all. What options are available? Cheers.

ECU remap, set of sports cams, headers, 100 cell cats, free flow silencer, a little bit of love and attention and you will have 290-295 bhp. Will that do?

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I think that amount of power would be just about right! Could you give me an estimate of the cost of each of those upgrades? My mate is about to buy one, and I'll be the first to tell him he should go for more power.
I have done almost identical upgrades to those you have listed on my Sport Evo E30 M3, except I have gone for Motec (M4, yum yum yum). Would Motec be at all beneficial on a modern engine like that of a Boxter S? It would need an M48 unit of course.

On a modern engine like the Box, you may aswell stay with the stock ECU otherwise you can have some alarming issues, not to mention the problems with emissions. The package will be around £5000+VAT, mail me offline when your friend is ready, Iwon't discuss business in public.

Regarding the E30, the motec works well, but then again we are developing an alternative alpha-N conversion package for the standard ecu (like the Group N factory E30) that should give similar results for half the price. I sell Motec as well, but I am always looking for options as not everyone wants to spend £2500 on an older car, but in principle I cannot fault the choice of using the M4 provided that you can afford it.

Thanks for that.
I think that piggy-back systems are good enough. The main priority is to get rid of the AFM, and this they do. I bought the Motec kit from a bloke who didn't want it on his car. Not original enough (!) Oh well, my gain. I got all the sensors/filter/connectors that formed the Powerstation guys' package for just £1000. I'm not sure I'd pay £2500 though. Alpha-N conversions are currently the big thing in E30 M3 land. A mate who also has a Sport Evo has done cams and Motec and got 263 BHP. Mine will be ready next week, I can't wait to try it. Next.....big brakes.
