My car is going for a service later on in February, and there's a few improvements I'm wanting to have done if I can...
1. Heat shield for starter motor. I've lost count of how many starter motors I've got through (thankfully all on warranty! ), but I've heard there's a company called Mod-wise that make a heat resistant sleeve to protect them from exhaust heat. Has any body done this, or used Mod-wise & if so what do you think?
2. I'm fed up of not being able to get into the boot until the key is in the ignition! Someone mentioned to me that it was possible to get the boot to open remotely via a keyfob, anyone know about this?
3. I'm also fed up of not seeing what's in the boot when its dark! I met a guy at a car club meet once who'd got a decent courtesy light in his Chimaera's boot, anyone know if there's a kit available for this mod?

Whoah, thats scarily (sp) similar to my demand request. Here's some answers:

1. I had mine done last service, I'm sure it wasn't the mod-wise solution but any heat shield should do the job. Otherwise it's a real pain in the arse if you're been razzing around in the summer and then need to fill-up with petrol - arse!

2. My alarm packed up last year so I got a Clifford unit fitted or £400 inc fitting, the key-fob has a separate remote boot release. Not sure what alarm you have or whether Meta alarms support this as a 'plug-in' module or alike.

3. Again, this is a real winner. A few guys in PH have this, as far as I know its not standard or a TVR option. I'd like to get one fitted and thought of wiring another light in parallel with the interior courtesy light. Otherwise I would image you should be able to just find a permanent 12V from somewhere in the boot (probably the lighting circuit) when just get a courtesy light and pin switch.

I'd be interested to see how you get on with number 3.

Cheers

1. Cannot comment on the heat shield, don’t have one, starter fine at present (touch wood).

2. I also got fed up with boot switch scenario, fitted a separate switch above driver’s seat belt which only works when either door open. Not ideal solution but for the cost of a relay and an hours work it works a treat. If you fit a new alarm most decent recent ones have the remote boot opener as an option.

3. I would have thought the hardest part about fitting a bootlight would be finding a decent one to use. If you want to cheat you could always have it come on with the side lights, the current wasted is not worth talking about.

I don't have Mod-Wise's starter motor shield, but can recommend Mod Wise (I have the brighter lights kit). David Beer is a keen enthusiast with a Griff himself, and his products are derived from things he wanted to improve on his own car. Give him a call and form your own opinion.
