Hello chaps,
Just a quickie, on the way back from Le Mans I had a couple of instances when the oil presuure reading would fluctuate between 50psi and 25psi. There seemed to be no particular circumstance to trigger it. I was at high autoroute speeds typically and terrain varied between gentle gradiants or totally flat.
When I dipped the clutch, the oil pressure at idle read 25psi so I knew the engine had oil. I also checked the dipstick and found the oil to be well up the stick.
I am guessing that the sender unit may be going intermittant or there is a cabling issue somewhere. Any ideas how I can check? Last thing I want to do is make any assumptions and find out too late it may be a problem elsewhere.....
Other than this little glitch, the car ran like a dream........
Thanks in advance,
IanM

Equally likely.

Connect a voltmeter to sender terminal and see if you can make it vary by moving the wiring/connectors etc. If yes, disconnect the sender wire and repeat by measuring the sender resistance (0-1kohm range).

Did any other instrument move (temperature gauge is the most sensitive to voltage variations - ign switch wiring etc....)

HI,
Thanks for the quick response...... None of the other instruments were affected at all (other than the usual random reading from the fuel gauge !!). I'll get the meter out and see what I can discover ....
Cheers,
IanM
