How did your cars perform?
How did they deal with the heat?

Well, my paranoia was unfounded. Car behaved perferctly apart from Friday afternoon where the fans could not get the temp down from an indicated 103 (ish) degrees however hard they tried, but we all know the temp guage isnt that accurate. And losing brake pedal pressure (had to pump it a couple of times) for about an hour on Monday morning whilst hooning the Normandy beaches (which Paul at Austec diagnosed over the phone and said I would be ok but to be careful).

This left Steve T (black cerb) and myself (yellow cerb) very VERY late for our ferry which resulted in our line astern dash up the A13 to Rouen at the only really naughty speeding speeds we did all weekend (almost ).

Must have been a great sight, the 2 of us putting some manners on all sorts (by necessity).

IIRC we did 275k's in just under 2 hours, must have averaged 135/140kph, which I tell you takes some doing (particularly with the Puegeots made by BMW, in that they dont come with indicators or rear view mirrors and just pull out when they feel like it.

I was the last car on the ferry

From my perspective, the car was faultless. No cooling problems (Mark Adams supplied fan controller sorts this out) and smooth running at all speeds.

Hope you all had a good run this year,

Steve.

Pretty uneventful for me too.

Rained all the way on Wednesday from Home to the circuit. Boot was wet from this but that was due to me grinding the arches out a little more to allow the wheels to fit with the car loaded.

The new coolant hoses and stainless pipes held out. Stable temp from 90°C-94°C all weekend.

PAS system held up with it's new pump, all bleed out now just needs a little top up.

Engine used NO oil.

Vibration from rear end started after beening it away from the Rouen entrance to the A28 which caused anxiousness at speeds over 9.0 units so tended to stay below.

Car appears to have a lazy nearside caliper too.

However, on the return journey I lost the clutch in Brionne, had gone to the floor at a roundabout before hand and when stoppping in the town it went completely. No fluid in the res so topped her up, bleed her through and we were off again. Survived a 1.5 hour traffic jam in Rouen as well.

drove to dover on tuesday night wednsday morning clutch only just working i carried on got on ferry and kept going eventually had to put more fluid in. clutch working again. after that not 1 problem. its by far the furthest i have ever driven in the cerb and apart from the clutch problem it was a faultless trip if you keep going at decent pace even the heat isnt to bad.

Lost brakes outside of Paris on sunday (was on my way to vineyard) due to heat and dragging pads boiling fluid. Luckily I found out before I needed to use them

My friend and I cleaned up the edges of the pads where they had been fouling the callipers and we were on our way back home.

There are a couple of flat spring clips at either end of the calliper, when corrosion gets behind these, the corroded metal increases in volume, causing the pads to get tight and not be able to move back and forth.

I think.

Anyhoo, was good fun apart from that.

I saw you park up behind me at Indianapolis on Friday Ridds, but you where nowhere to be seen (not that I know what you look like!) by the time I had wandered over.

So, a belated

Mine performed faultlessly for the trip down and around Le Mans, but I lost the starter for the journey home and then a misfire gremlin attacked the engine as well.

Twas an interesting journey home...

Car was perfect in the heat, and the hour long traffic jam from Arnage corner friday to arnarfe village for beer, then another 45 min jam trying to get back again

I also seem to have this vibration at higher speeds that gets much worse the faster you go. This seemed to start with one of a few quick starts from toll booths
Any idea what this might be? Only had the car a week, so still learning.

No problems with heat at all. Had a brief problem when we shorted the radio/wipers/hazards/lights/boot lock/drivers door fuse, but soon got that sorted. Also left the handbrake on and had smoke out of the rear wheels (crawling pace back to arnage!) - but both were arguably our fault.

Toll booths were fun.

Fantastic car.

I have a horrible feeling it has something to do with the Diff. I tightened mine a while ago but after the starts the clonking came back and also this vibration started...

Just had mine up on a ramp, and there seems to be oil on the exhaust from around the diff.
Need to give this a closer look

On the whole it was perfect, great weekend, great car, lots of fun.

My cerb did get a little warm in the Friday night Paris rush-hour - thought it was all going to end in tears, but was not to be. After then was perfect, until I pulled up in the driveway at home and the doors failed to open - as if to remind me.

Did seem to have a rather large noise from the exhaust - especially through tunnels ...

Got my car back following clutch gremlins at 21.15 night before departure, left at 0430 and low and behold couldn't get into first again. Anywhoo with stoik resolve we pushed on and once on the move things were dandy, first was a pig to get into the whole way down but other than that it was fine. Met up with Mr Fubes (nice tin hat ) and Steve T down at Arnage Corner and Steve kindly put my mind at ease saying that it can all be a bit of a pig after clutch work, sure enough on the way back yesterday I suddenly realised it had loosened up a fair old bit and was giving far fewer probs engaging.

Further up on the way back I got oil pressure light flash up and a drop in pressure on the guage when turning left, topped up with 1.5l and seemed to sort it but some signs of oil around and about then engine so need to investigate further. Other thing I noticed when bonnet was up was a hiss from my (recently regassed) aircon, one of the pipes (which appears to have had a previous repair before) was leaking my lovely new gas out, low and behold no aircon about 20 minutes later. But hey car got me there and back without a tow truck and given that I was camped with 5 Porker boys who enjoyed mentioning Tvr's and unreliability every 5 minutes it would have been mortifying to prove them right.

Saw your new car around the Annexe Simon and on the road back up yesterday. Looks lovely, hope the above is nothing serious.

Still it got me home, and anyway you porker drivers probably got worried and had to keep checking your revcounters to ensure your engines were still actually running after hearing mine

OK, best sounding road engine goes to you.

No negative comments from me.

I did have an eventful journey down though, my horn stopped working!

One scare for me (which actually turned out to be nothing) - after “pressing on” and “making good progress” on one particular outbound stretch and pulling up shortly afterwards, I noticed wafts of steam from the nearside back edge of the bonnet. I lifted the bonnet and then the batwing but although there werer signs of standing water evident around the coolant filler cap – there was no apparent leakage from anywhere. Coolant temperature was reading normal too. I suspect it was some standing water sitting somewhere in the under bonnet area (following the torrential rain the previous day) which had been dislodged at higher speed onto the manifold or engine. No subsequent problems again at all on that score though. The car used a little water and oil over the whole trip but nothing of real consequence. Performance and handling were outstanding, no electrical issues either apart from a temporarily errant speedo after hitting readings it hadn’t seen before in my ownership . I have some front break judder now though from high speed which probably means the fairly recent skimming I had done wasn’t the best option. New discs I guess now. I really enjoyed the trip and didn’t miss the V8S at all - despite the generally excellent weather. I actually spent more time fixing other car’s problems. One minor mishap though when a fellow TVR nudged me from behind when at a standstill but the damage could’ve been a lot worse. Roll on June 2007.
