Whats the crack... are they any good? Is there much setting up - how to the connections work, does the Vonage become your modem?

Not sure what box you mean but I have Vonage and I was supplied with a (Linksys RT31P2) Router into which the phone & Fax line plug but this connects to my broadband modem (livebox) I can therefore take my internet connection from the modem (wired or wireless) or one of the 3 outputs on the Vonage router.

It's been OK, the only problem I have is that sending faxes can be a bit 'iffy' especially if there is much internet activity going on, vonage tell me that there is no problem with their system and that it may be my fax machine? I suspect that the issue might be the slow upload speed of my connection as it's fine for incoming faxes, which is mostly what I use it for anyway.

Had Vonage since they launched in the UK. Very good but if you are on ADSL there's no traffic shaping meaning that if you gun your Internet your phone can screw up. Other tha that - excellent.

Interesting, so they basically give you a router with an analogue phone connection on the back of it in addition to the normal ports?

Sounds nifty!
