after using an annoying ethernet lead on my laptop, I finally managed to get it working wireless again.

Bought a Linksys router(PCWorld), and actually managed to get it working myself!!! The last router packed up after 6 months, and paying someone £80 quid for the privelage of configuring it.....

Trouble is, some webpages are ridiculously slow to load - Pistonheads is for instance, as well as some streaming comentaries(Ladbrokes). Youtube is a bit hit and miss for instance....

Am I missing something else I should have done, or is it a problem with some websites? Also can anyone else access the router for use, or can I have it password encrypted.......

who is your ISP? ...on AOL for instance you can suffer from slow or inaccesible sites if your MTU size is set too high. Generally 1458 or 1500 works fine, but try it at 1400 if you are on AOL - its probably on the WAN settings page in the router config menu......

Conversley if it is NTL then you'll probably find that their transparent proxy for your area is up the creak. We've been getting a LOT of issues with it. Same with the set-top box method of access seems that every so often things will just stop working (i.e. MSN won't connect, weird and wild ping responses, slow download/upload), quick reboot of it later and your away again.

Indeed.
Tried to get into the web address to alter the router settings, but could not connect.

Against the advice of NTL a few weeks earlier - were they claimed there was now no need to use a proxy server as they had sorted their issues out.

I re applied the PS I had been using and the wireless is working fine and all web pages are displayed quicker than ever.
