How badly does Beckham have to play -

Before our tactical genius drops him.
We were good in the first half then back to normal. Why have 3 players on, all with yellow cards, when have Wallcott and Downing on the bench. Ashley Cole nowhere near fit, and as much as I rate Carragher is too slow for a full back. Joe Cole doing well but always comes in onto his right foot. Play him on the right and drop Beckham. Robinson also very suspect for both goals. Really can't see them getting past quarter finals.

Before today i thought Robinson was OK ,but after today i doubt his command in the box after watching him staying on his line for the two deliveries into the box that led to the goals.

I don't know why he bothered bringing Walcott to the WC if he ain't gonna play him. He surely will not play him during the knockout phases, so Tonight was the ideal opportunity to let him have a go, and Sven blew it.
All Lampard does is look to have shots; Beckham's influence is less & less; Rooney's an incident waiting to happen and all we hear is hype hype hype. Where did Joe Cole go to after he scored? I felt it was right for Walcott to come on. But there was SG, once again, with a goal that meant they top the league.
Personally, I just want to see more of the really creative players out there - Germany & Italy look strong; Spain & Holland have powerful squads; Brasil & Argies just get stronger. England's squad is so thin, plus the egos seem fragile.

I agree that this was the perfect opportunity for Montgomery Burns to show why he dragged Walcott along; and besides, SGE could have been the person to kick start the career of who could possibly be the second sensation in the current footballing era.
Agreed, Gerrard came on to keep one out and then stick one in, but why give the Swedes the initiative to come and attack us when we clearly look very wobbly at the back.
Oh, but we're through and in these kind of competitions, it's all about winning... blah, blah, blah.

the problem is we have half a squad of overpaid models who are more concerned with their haircuts and hype than actually playing football...
the other half are inexperienced or, well, just plain useless...
All 3 matches i've been amazed at the result, with the exception of a few moments of skill, it was medicore...
just be greatful were not playing germany next..

I wouldn't call Stevie G, Rooney, John Terry, Paul Robinson and Jamie Carragher overpaid models, none of them are exactly pretty boys and they're certainly not afraid to go in where it hurts.
Robbo has had a couple of dodgy games, but give me him over David 'Bansai' James any day of the week. The guy has been quality for England and Tottenham for the last couple of years and doesn't become bad overnight. The general communication in the team has looked poor the last couple of games, which won't be helping him make his mind up when to come for the ball.

Agreed - I also think losing Rio had an adverse effect on the back four's cohesion, which wouldn't help Robinson at all.

I cant remember who said it but apparantly sources in the FA have confirmed that one of the questions asked of managers being interviewed for the england job was "will beckham still be captain and first choice under you?"
the answer given went part of the way to decide whether they went any further in the interview process.
surely this cant be right? can it?
