As in the title - is this normal ?

Had the car 3 weeks now, it has a cargraphic exhaust system and BMC filter, from a previous post I suspect the ECU had been altered as the red line is somewhat higher than is apparantley standard !

It sounds fantastic but I was just wondering if the popping and banging on overrun was something that all GT3's do or has it been mapped into mine by a previous owner ?

Is it in anyway harmful ?

You suspect the ECU has been altered? Maybe very costly in an accident when your insurance co discover a mod they weren't told about

Well mines totally standard & doesn't do any popping & banging at all on overrun. There's a few other noises to get used to on a GT3 but not those. A few others I know also with standard set up don't do it either.

Other than that not much help I'm afraid

Sounds very suspect. Get it looked at to find out what's been done.

I have the same setup - cargraphic & BMC filter. Pops and bangs on over run too!!

Changing my MAF today and having the mapping checked by 9M next week. I'll let you know if it reduces the popping & banging.

Only had my mark 1 a few weeks and have noticed a few strange noises but none like what you are describe. If you want a really helpful and very knowledgable mechanic, speak to John in service at OPC Swindon (01793 615888). He will tell you if it normal or not.

PS Is this the Camtune car?

Good luck!!

Sounds like it would be wise to check it out then

I like the pops and bangs on overrun (very lemans GT3 sounding) but wouold hate to think any harm is being done !

Who's recomended (prefer midlands area) to get the map checked on a RR ?

Anyone know any history or previous owner maybe on here that could shed any light on previous mods ?

Car is a iris blue mk1 reg V78 XXX

It's the only Gt3 i've driven so have no bench mark to compare against but it does seem VERY quick !

Could feasibly result from a leaky injector that allows some fuel into a cylinder even when the throttle's closed but hey, I'm hypothesising.

Better get it checked out, though if they fix it I bet you'll miss the noise!
