I can never seem to get a clean selection on my reverse gear !
Is this normal as the 1-5 are pretty sweet all the time

Go into 5th first... should make it easier.

Or third first.

Seems smoother on mine than going from 5th.

Yep, go into 5th first, no syncro in reverse.

Yes, I was told by the salesman that it is good practice to engage 5th immediately before attempting to engage reverse. Only problem is, I'm sure I've read in one of the motoring magazines, that this can lead to failure of one of the gearbox components. Sorry, I've got no more information, it's just something that I remember reading!
Good Luck!

It says in the manual to put it into 5th gear first before putting it into reverse gear. Something to do with the synchro mesh thingy in the gear box

If it does it regardless of what gear you select first or where your foot is then it could be the clutch dragging(not disengaging fully).

No synchromesh on reverse, is the same on every TVR gear box and has been for at least 10 years so do not worry. Just select a forward gear first (1, 3, or 5) and then select reverse. Or if you have driven up and stopped you can put it straight into reverse (as long as you have not released the clutch).

It never ceases to amaze me that this is not fully explained to people when they pick up their cars. There are so many little things on these cars which make them unique a full explanation should always be given before letting buyers drive off (dealer or private). They are not bad things, just need to understand them to know why they happen. And if you don't understand them you think that they are bad or wrong.

Don't use fifth!

It's the weakest gear in the 'box, as the cluster is only held on with a flimsy circlip.
Much safer to use 3rd or 4th instead.

For some reason I've always used first as it seemed the logical gear to use. I'm sure using any gear is better than none though.

No they don't.

My Tuscan always did this but my Tamora never has. From day one it's always gone into reverse smoothly and silently. Could it be that I have the close ration gearbox on my Tamora whereas the Tuscan had the standard gearbox?

my tam does not go into reverse unless selecting 5th first.
