Hi guys, just had a test drive in the C6 Z06, and I think it might be too civilised for me! I'm wondering if an LSx engined Ultima could be built that matched the vettes straight line speed (or at least came reasonably close) but with lighter weight and less design constraints, had a bit more drama in the drive of it?

Would prefer to stick with a factory-standard LSx engine for reasons of reliability, what kind of 0-60 and 0-100 times would one get from a 360ish bhp ultima? I believe they typically weigh about 30% less than the corvette, so the power to weight ratio should be similar to the 500bhp Z06. Am I thinking along the right lines? Anyone out there with this setup who could comment?

an ultima with a stock LS1 (350bhp), LS6 (400bhp out of a vette) or LS2 (400bhp) would out perform any vette on the stock engine!

also, with a simple cam swap, set of headers, remap and maybe a little port work you should see and relativlty easy, cheap and reiable 500bhp.

thnaks Chris.

I remember an Ultima GTR with a LS1 engine, 350hp does 0-60mph in 3.3secs and a top speed of 150+mph. So it's definitely way faster than a 2006 Z06 Vette.

HORSE POWER IS HORSE POWER BUT THE LS 1 IS AT LEAST 100 POUNDS LIGHTER THAN A SMALL BLOCK CHEVY, ITS ALSO SMALLER. IN MY OPINION THE LS IS THE ONLY WAY TO GO BECAUSE IT IS A BETTER ENGINE. I KNOW THE FOLKS IN ENGLAND ARE MORE AT EASE WITH THE SMALL BLOCK. bUT AS THE MAN SAID "GO BIG OR STAY AT HOME.

My heads and cam LS6, about 500hp. Has gone 10.86 @ 133 mph.
0-60 at the drag strip has been about 3 sec.
A stock LS6 engine will run at least a full second faster in the 1/4 mile than a vette.
Also the lighter car will be more violent due to thing happening a lot faster.

I'm trying to find an LS1 at the moment.
It does not look as it is worth importing; by the time you pay shipping and import tax.
I'm after a used one, until I build an LS2/7.
So a stock alloy block engine with 350 BHP will be fine.

I’ve been watching ebay but they don’t ever come up in the UK.
Any idea where I can get one from in the UK, how much should I expect to pay and what sort of milage?

Haven't we just had this conversation on another thread? - www.grannysspeedshop.co.uk/ sell on ebay, I'm sure Mike (boosted) could assist too.

Thanks Eliot but I don't sell used lsx engines anymore, they rarely fit the bill as there are so many variants and condition is an unknown.

Yes but it's too young.

No, it´s too old! Gen IV SBCs (LS2/LS7) are superior.

Let me amend that.
Yes but it's too young. (To go through SVA without the hassle of trying to fit CATs into an already confined and overly hot place).

Have you seen the photo's of the cats on the LS engines in the back of the gardner douglas, they are no bigger than a bean can. (I think they are metal cored, as opposed to ceramic).

Oo, just spotted this one - twin turbo lsx:

steve: I know, but here in germany you are going to have hassles with our TUEV, because our emissions regulations are linked to the registration of the car, not the age of the engine. So its a bit different, gen.I SBCs are no option over here.

The Factory Five GTM at Hot Rod Power Tour was running with cats only, no mufflers. It had a cross over pipe and it sounded sweet.... and I would expect not too loud to fail registration. Im gonna do that on mine.
