For some reason I cannot transfer images off my D70. When I plug in the USB cable and turn it on it says PC instead of PL, and Picture Project won't allow the "Transfer" button to work...

Also, the images do not rotate on the camera, despite the Rotate Image thingy being set to ON...

Any suggestions peeps???

Cheers
Jim

Er.... no idea yet on your first problem.

If you're not either pointing up or down and the rotation's not happening automatically, then "I think we have a problem, Houston....er... or Richmond, anyway"....

But if you give the camera a little shake, the rattle that you probably hear is the little gizmo that knows whether you're horizontal or vertical (as I say, it gets confused when you point up or down) so give it a gentle shake and try again???

Well Rotation is back and functioning, but the PC/PL thang ain't. I took the battery out for a few mins, but still the problem persists... Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I don't think I can be much of a help here as I don't understand Nikon cameras, but one thing I can say is it's always best to use a card reader to trasfer images. Hope it'll get sorted.

OK, brain slowly coming into contact with caffeine here....

Can you "see" the camera files (using hEx-plorer, if you're on Micro$hite) with the USB hook up - rather than through PP???

I have no more idea about Picture Project than how to cook a souffle - I take it that was a coaster in the box???

Mine says PC on the camera when it is connected to the computer and transfering. I've never seen PL on the display. In the setup menu, do have the usb setting on "M" not "PTP"? Does the camera mount on your computer? Can you transfer the files directly rather than through the software?

(Feel free to re-read my previous comment!)

Glad it's all working now!

I take it you use this Picture Project as part of your workflow - is there any particular reason? (am I missing out on a trick or two???)

I transfer files direct from CF (or via a Giga One) to hard drive and open them in Raw Shooter.

In the process somewhere I copy the files to DVDs for back up.

Then I reformat the CF (although I haven't deleted anything from the Giga yet (40Gb)) for next use.

I don't use anything special for managing the files apart from the PC hard drive and a second HD. Intention is to add external HDs for more storage, but I'm pretty undisciplined at renaming and organising shots.......

I just use Picture Project to move the piccies beano. I use Photoshop CS to tweak em. I also burn a couple of CDs/DVDs of the "important" pictures I take for safe storage.

Hi Diddyman.

I too have a D70. You don't need to use Picture Project.

I plug my camera in to the PC, and the D70 shows up as an additional had drive in "My Computer"

I then select all the images on the camera, and use the "Move these files" command from the left hand sidebar menu, and choose the destination folder.

Go and have a cuppa, and voila, all your pics should be safely on your computer.

Use CS2 to your heart's content then...

Not sure if this applies to the D50 . . . but the D2x has two modes in which it can be connected to a PC, one is essentially a mounted external drive, the other allows remote control of the camera but doesn't mount the images like a drive . . . it's menu selectable . . .
