They were never great, but thats really bad! Had a 735i (the 6 one) for a few weeks as a loan for my knackered company car (the bosses) and that drank like a fish.... but the onboard computer said 20-22MPG and I drove like a vicar!!! Well, it was the bosses and he would have fired my sorry arse if I had pranged it..... £100 to fill up if I remember rightly.... and that was years ago.... blimey...

£100 isnt far off to fill her up...last time I was flush enough to fill her up full, she took I think £78 on top of a couple of gallon already in the tank!

Yeah Im thinking that 17.8mpg sucks as Im sure someone on PH has a V12 that does 19 and someone else has a V8 american jobby thats clocking 20

My old 3.2 evo never dropped much below 22 and would do high 20's on a run!

Swapped it for an S2000 which I reckon is worse! LOL

Pick up an E46 M3 on Saturday though so back to economical motoring!

I have the M30 3.5 in my 535 and i seem to average 18mpg
But it does a lot of town driving and o don't hang around on the open road.
Then again i never bought mine for the economy.

Old E34 540i with a chip. The computer reckons around the 20 mark, mostly commuting journeys with some fast stuff, some endless queues of traffic. [Edit in the light of the next post: it's an automatic...]

Trouble is, it's using more fuel than that - there's a hole in the tank!

540 Sport 24.7mpg since I've owned it 16,500 miles, good mixture of driving.

I recently drove from Milton Keynes to Manchester and set the cruise at 62mph to see what I could get....33.7mpg door to door and totally bored!!!!!!!!!!!

Didn't drive back at 62mph
