Hi, I recently bought and fitted new plugs from ACT Products. Does anyone know if the plugs need to be gap'd before putting them in or do they come ready to fit ?

If they were NGK, they would have had gaps of 0.6mm from manufacture and that should be fine.

Yes (but hopefully 0.9mm not 0.6).

If you're not sure, the easiest thing would be to call Tim and ask. It's no bad thing to check the gaps as you go though.

Steve.

Thanks guys. I've noticed that they have a fair amount of carbon build up on them already and they've only been in a few weeks. What is the likely cause of this ? I have already cleaned the stepper motor, replaced the coolant temp sensor, also cleaned the butterfly valve in the plenum.

Any ideas ?

Maybe the air filter ??

The electrode itself and the end of the threaded body on the plug - It's dry with black soot.

Also the top of the extender plug which connects to the HT lead has a white powder on it ?

Sounds like it's indicating rich running to me but could be simply due to lots of stop/start or low speed/gentle driving.

The white is probably oxidation as the shrouds are aluminium and get salt contamination from road spray etc. They all do it.

Edited to add, I've just looked at my shrouds again and they're not aluminium at all but galvinised steel. Still think it's salt/mineral evaporate 'though
