Sports Exhausts - This old Chestnut AGAIN
Discussion
Yes i know its been done to death and then some but still im undecided.
Ive been um-ing and ar-ing now for about 2 years on and off whether to sling one on the T350. Ive just read the recent thread and a couple from the last couple of years.
From what ive read and seen if i do buy it looks like it'll either be between the TVR power silencers or the JP silencer. Cost doesnt really come into it i realise that power are offering 10% off and JP have quoted me £310 direct.
My dilema is this - of course i want the pops crackles on overun etc want it to be deep and bassy at tick over but i dont want one thats too loud when driving at 70-90 ish.
Reading around the things thats stopping me so far is ive got a feeling that the TVR power might just be too loud when cruising and although i think the JP might be the best compromise ive read a couple of people say that after fitting the JP they thought the car wasnt as responsive.
I believe the standard exhaust gives the best bhp, but i cant imagine the others would have much effect either way.
What would be really useful would be comments from people who had either exhaust, preferably ones that have tried or heard both, and from those of you that have had their sports exhaust on for a while as i appreciate that those who have just put them on will be still overwhelmed by the different sound.
I thought ZooOOM,s sounded good at Gaydon but he wasnt sure which exhaust was fitted .
Anyway look forward to your replies as this 400 quid is burning a hole in my pocket

hi again yeah you do need sports exhausts.i ve just decatted it slightly.fully decatted but still got a little bit of silencing in.that is with power exhausts.do you know that you need a chip put on it as well.but the jp exhausts are a lot bigger but not much differnce i think anyway.my tam has been on the rolling road at power today.your choice but i recommened the power ones but up to you.dan(kiefh s son)

I've had the TVR Power silencers on the car for the last 15 months and still love them. I use the car every day and have done quite a few long trips (4 or 5 hours) in the car and don't find it too intrusive. In fact I actually found the resonance from the standard exhaust more annoying.
By the way, no need to re-chip for the silencers - that's only for the de-cat route. My hearing hasn't been damaged enough yet for me to think the car needs to be even louder...

You're right about the standard exhaust giving the best power. I was told this by the factory service ctr last time i was there. They have tested most of the aftermatket systems on a rolling road.
I have the JP on my T350t, it was the crystal topaz one at Gaydon last Sunday. I personally think it suits the T350 better as it fills the holes up in the rear diffuser.
Had a TVR Power supersports on my Tam, it was so loud.

Ok so having had both, what would you say the difference is at tick over on overun and at motorway cruising speeds. Also did you have the JP one fitted and if so any notable difference afterwards in response?

Mike, how much different (better) is the JP over standard and did u notice any difference in power / response
Also see your over in South Yorks, im in chesterfield, maybe you could give me a demo
Cheers

Maxx-waxx,
The TVR power was louder than the JP on tick over, too loud IMO, though it sounded great when driving normally. Was loud on the motorway, but not enough for me to want to take it off. The JP is quieter on tick over and when in normal use / motorway, but does pop and bang just as good as the TVR power, if not better and the sound when you open it up is much nicer, more unique and conducive to a large straight 6, deep rasp when it hits the power band.
Haven't noticed any difference in response, but the noise does make you adjust your driving style slightly.
You've also got the asthetics to to think of on a T350. The JP fills the holes in the diffuser better, the TVR power is 2 individual smaller silencers.
I'd say if you want an exhaust that makes the car sound like an animal go for the TVR power, if you want something slightly more civilised then go for the JP.
Hilti / Ginner.
I suppose this has been said before, but why on earth would you replace an exhaust for one that loses power and simply makes more noise? Why not treat yourself to a Peco Big Bore 4 and save a few bob?
I'd certainly buy one if it added grunt, but maybe I'm alone in not wanting to draw even more attention to my TVR?

I wouldnt thats the whole point in asking for peoples experience after having fitted one
How about a De catt that takes about an hour to fit, you keep your catt brick, releases about %BHP, 5-10ft of torque and about 5-10db ?

Standard de-cat and sports exhaust is probaly the biggest outlay to power loss any tuner has come up with so far.
Sports exhaust or de-cat = power/torque loss.

Bugger, that should've said releases about 5BHP, as in a 5BHP gain. I never mentioned about either a Standard de-cat or sports exhaust! Or for that matter any tuner.

I never mentioned your special "only you know and no one else does" mod either.
