I bought a brand new Polo 1.2 in October last year on a 55 plate, since then I've done 10220 miles without a service. In the Owner's Manual it says the car only needs a service when the "Service Interval Display" alerts me on the instrument panel. At the moment it's telling me I've got 4500 miles until the next service.

Just wondering really what you all think about this "Service Interval Display" - can you really trust a car to tell you when it needs servicing? The car's not driven hard or anything, should I just take it in for a service do you reckon or go by the "Service Interval Display"? I'm just worried that if I leave it too long it won't do the engine much good will it? I phoned the dealer today and was told that they won't do a service until the car needs it......paying customer here!!

I know what you mean... my van is coming up to 14k. Dealers tell me that it won't need service until 18k. I feel like I should - at least - be changing the oil.

Gulp.
