not the best ever driver ive seen at the ring....!!!!
Even so he looks pretty smooth and relaxed throughout the lap. If I could driv e like that I'd still be a very happy man.

There is a great clip floating around of a Carrera Cup race at the 'ring (full circuit) in '92ish in which Irmgartz, Alzen and Manthey are nose-to-tail for the entire race. Superb.
Irmgartz doesn't come to every VLN, and although he was entered for the 24 he didn't race.
Because he runs a Cup car he's got no chance to take the overall. Nevertheless, he is very, very good behind the wheel.

You must be bloody good then!!
For all we know, he might have seen Rosemeyer, Fangio, Moss, Clark, Stewart, Beloff or Ickx in their prime.
In that case, he would be right to say that Irmgartz wasn't the best he had seen, to which Michael would no doubt agree.

Their cars were very different from the 964 Cup car or the GT3 Cup car (amongst others) that Irmgartz has driven. That disparity notwithstanding, I would have to say that, twenty years ago, Bell was not as quick at the 'ring as were Beloff and Ickx in identical equipment.
Last year in GT3 Cup cars Vergers was not as quick as Jorg Otto and Thomas Messer were. Vergers' fastest lap, IINM, was in the 9:02ish area, whilst Otto had an 8:55 and Messer an 8:57, IIRC. Mind you, those times were over a single lap; Otto has be known to push the boundaries to the point where not infrequently he crashes, and Messer may be the amateur equivalent to Uwe Alzen (that is,
). Bell and Vergers were/are fabulously quick relative to us mere mortals, but I'm not sure that, at least at the 'ring, they have been at the absolute sharp end.
There is no way that one could judge for sure, but at the present time the fastest guy at the 'ring may be Lucas Luhr.
