Decatting noise question

Still considering have it decatted but I'm a little worried about the noise and the neighbours. If anyone has a decatted 4l, just how much louder is it than standard.

Are you sure you want it de-catted.. Why not have the sports exhaust conversion done. A lot easier to explain to the MOT people when they ask 'where's your cat mate...!!'. I had the conversion done on mine just after I brought it (3 yrs ago) had no problems with the noise, even though it's 108db at 4500 rpm. I see from your profile you're in MK, drop me an email if you want to pop round and have a listen to mine...

I had the Sports Conversion done about 2 weeks after I had it,

Primarily as the stock tail pipes were v.v.puny and didnt look right.

The new ones could swallow a cat...
The noise was also infinately better. a boomy, loud, airplane noise... if a little droney sometimes..

Certainly sounded as people expected it to...

About 3 mths bck, I had new manifolds from 2Sheds (ACT) with the precats removed...

The noise profile changed quite a bit... inside the car, there is alot less cabin exhaust noise. I can hear the engine alot more, my thoughts are the noise is escaping out the pipes alot easier, as opposed to bouncing back of the cats... but the noise outside, from the rear of the car is it sounds like a NASCAR now everyone comments on how much 'eviler' it sounds.

I only have a video of it pre-de-pre-cats...

My 5l was quite a bit louder. Deeper too. People following behind have commented that its "unbeleivably loud" - though that was from a people carrier pilot. Someone posted on another thread about it sounding like pinking - this is true. The chambers do resonate, and the car will sound like a bag of spanners from the front. Not quite as bat as an early Cerb though! It still won't sound like a SEAC (which is what I was after) but the noise on full chat is addictive.

Jamie, that sounds fantastic, however, I leave for work in mine at 7:30am and I'm not sure the neighbourhood is quite ready for that sort of early morning wake up call. But, on a pleasure rating, that sort of noise must rank pretty high.

On a downside, surely the local rozzers have your card marked !!

hehe I sometimes have to get up early.. benefit of living out in the Stix and Rozzers, dont think we have them in Billericay... cept for if theres an accident.. Were all fine upstanding members of society dont you know
