Wireless Routers and Piggy Backs
Discussion
Morning all.
I think the answer to this is no, but - if anyone has an alternative, i'd be more than happy!!
At the moment, I have a fairly cheap (rubbish) 11mbps wireless router on my adslmax line. I have 3 machines connecting to it, all of which have different brands of wireless cards to the router.
The quality of the wirless connection is "excellent" when it is line of sight, anything else and it's flakey to say the least.
I want to know if it is possible to "piggy back" another wireless router (or similar kind of device) on the network, to boost the signal to parts of the house and garden that are not receiving the original signal too well.
I foresee all sorts of channel clashes, etc., which is why I'm thinking not.
PH'ers...... it's over to you!!!
Cheers.
(p.s. there are 2 other wireless networks within connectable distance to me)

Acouple of possible options - you can get piggy-back range extenders, however when I looked into this they were pretty expensive. What I did was to buy a Wireless Access Point and then connect this into my router (normal CAT 5 network cable) and position his in my "black spot. However (I think) that this will effectively give you two separate wireless networks and you would have to "roam" manually if you went from one to the other. In my case this is not a problem as the "black spot" is in my extension and the machine in there is only used by a fried and doesn't move.
