I am 99% going to v-max next week, anybody know what it's like for stonechipping? went to Elvingdon near York a few years back, what a mess on the front of the car after. From what i can gather there are only two cars at a time out so not much chance of stones being flicked up?? Just to be sure i wan't some protective film for the front, any ideas? obviously something that can be peeled off and thrown away at the end of the day. Thanks in advance, hope to see some off you there..............

a couple of layers of clingfilm should do it.

I've got some product called "Armourguard" on the front of my 944 - but this is not a peel-on-peel-off thing, it has been there since 1997 (put on by a previous owner). It looks like clear sticky-backed-plastic which is cut to shape and covers the front of the car (in 9 pieces).

It works - there are no stonechips on the 'armourguarded' bits, but some on the other bits surrounding it. However, it is not a complete answer - it is not as glossy as the surrounding paintwork, so shows (although the car has to be clean, and you have to look for it), and if it is hit by something sharp (as it was the other day), the armourguard gets slightly cut and looks unsightly (so I trimmed that small patch off.)

Recommended. But it cost the previous owner something like £320 to have applied, which was ALOT for what it is.

What about if i used multiple layers of masking tape? will it stay on, or will it not come off????any ideas...i realise it might look a mess but i think it might be better than stonechips...

You want a some helicopter tape from www.tridentracing.co.uk/ at Silverstone 01327 857822, it's the same stuff as the used on 944s and older 911 Turbos around the wheel arch protrusions. Sticks on and removes easily using heat from a hairdryer.

From memory a metre of 6" wide is a few quid, they also sell 2 foot squares for about a tenner (I could be way out on the prices )

I'm looking for similar at the moment. When cars come in from shipping to the dealers they have this low tack blue stuff on. Looks just like the stuff on this thread :

I've asked what it is, so fingers crossed.
