Went to cover a Mopar meet at the Ace last night. While I was there these two were providing some entertainment.

No offense but this proves how difficult panning is.

Problem was (apart from fading light) that they wern't just going left to right but up and down and side to side

I can do perfect pans...

I just wanted to show more movement in these

In number 4 the bike was on the floor on it's side but he was donuting it round and round while sitting on top of it.

The police turned up to have a word with one of the bikers. As they were pulling over the bike did a 180 doughnut and dissapeared into the sunset in the time it took the police to do a three point turn.

It does, but not in the way you seem to think. This is panning done to extremes, and done in such a way to deliberately get crazy effects and thus better capture the drama of the situation.

If you went and tried to achieve the results shown here, I suspect you would find it even harder than to get "normal" panning shots.

Agreed, I think the stock panning shot, side on with a nice crisp car tends to lack much excitement these days. The above really capture more feeling for me. Love them

Presumably he had some sort of device or protection on the bike? Sounds expensive otherwise - unless of course it was someone else's bike ...

One benefit of going for the more exciting image is that there is no requirement to disguise any plate that may come into shot!

S'funny what people get up to though. I mean who would think of pulling such stunts (and practicing them as well I guess?) in the first place, let alone turn up somewhere to entertain the punters FOC?
