Modwise fan kits

Whilst sat in the cab of a tow truck (for the second time in a month due to the 3rd fried starter motor and 100amp fuse in a year) i had a sudden thought :light bulb:

Can the modwise fan kit be modified to provide a temperature controlled fan over run when you switch the ignition off?

most moden cars have this facility and the additional temp sensors the Modwise kit adds, I would have thought it could be a relatively easy circuit to devise, either working off a temp sensor and or a timer to prevent it running the battery flat.

Anyone got any ideas/done this to their car?

The twin speed mod-wise kit comes with the facility to keep the fans running after the ignition switch has been turned off until the temp comes down below the setting of the red dial. Simple to wire up - just a cable (supplied) to the starter motor. Its great for preventing heat soak.

Just to say, A big thank you to David Beer (Mod-Wise).

I have just fitted the two stage fan kit and hot start wiring to the car and what a difference it has made.

I would recommend the fan kit to anyone even if you don't have an engine temp problem, its very effective and keeping the engine bay temp down which means the cabin doesnt get so hot either.

Def agree, it's well worth the money imo which reminds me I owe David some cash(apolgies for the delay David if yer reading, it's on its way). I have the 2 stage cooling system and fan overrun, cabin temps are alot more bearable and the half speed cut in is excellent.

I think I remember David B talking about fan run-on when I bought it.
There is a short-fat wire ending in a female bullet connector amongst the wiring, which is doing nothing.
Can I get the fans to continue to run on somehow? David?

If I remember correctly the wire your are talking about should be red. With the kit came a long piece of this red cable with a male bullet connector on one end and a ring connector on the other. The ring goes to the live feed of the starter and the bullet to the cable your talking about. The fans will then stay on if their running and the ignition is switched off until the temp falls

I think this is correct! When I moved mine form the Chimaera to the Griff I never seperated the two cables but I am pretty sure its in two parts (in case you don't want to use the feed it saves having the cable coiled up)

Correct, the red lead connects to the heavy duty live from the starter motor (there should also be an in-line fuse on the lead).

The little cable with the female bullet connector is indeed Red.
But I don't have any other cable, so I might make it. I assume the cable leading to the starter is the same size (rating) as the one with the female end on. Can you tell me what size fuse is inline?

I'm a cheapskate and went for the single dial which brings the fans on a 1/2 speeed. Car is used daily and even in these temps the full speed fans rarely kick in now.
They only run on if the ignition is turned off and the fans are at full speed. They will not run on at 1/2 speed. DB confirmed this to me recently after I had connected the kit to the starter.

I'm going to have a go wiring this in the next time the car is on axle stands.
