I'll have to fit a new cam in the 400se as the old one is worn (hope we can fit it before BBWF or i'll have to come with a griff and will look like a gaylord!!).
What's the standard cam used in the late 400 series? It's a 1991 hotwire. I've had two advices, first is to put a 4.3 cam in and the other one is to put a DJE cam in. Does anyone have experiences with these cams?

Well, I also fitted some gapless rings and upped the CR at the same time, so it might not be quite a like for like comparison. However the new cam seems to suit the 400 well. Its got just as much low down torque as te old one, but the top end is much stronger. Idle is fine. Slight clatter on cold start but it sorts out as it warms.
I had a distinctive step in power at 3500rpm on my old cam (accompanied by a change in exhaust note), now the power comes in earlier and harder. Top end breathing is better, and the engine revs cleanly to the red line (6k) The exhaust note is just evil ALL the time

Well - you might neet to lift the front an inch or two, just slacken off the engine mount horizontal bolts and jack it up under the sump with a flat bit of wood to spread the load.
