Hi Folks,

Although it will be getting a service in the near future. I will possibly need to top up the oil in my 97 2.5 Boxster in the meantime.

Having just bought it, I have no idea what oil is in it at the moment.

My questions are...
What oil is usually/best used in the Boxster engine? In particular what make.

Am I ok to top it up without knowing what's currently in it?

Cheers!

Bob.

Porsche recommend Mobil 1. Can't remember whether its the "motorsport" grade or the regular. If no-one else piles in I'll check my top-up pot tonight.

Mine doesn't use much in between services anyway...

Cheers guys!

Not knowing what has been put in before, will Mobil 1 be okay for topping it up?

Hi

well as lomg as its a synthetic based oil which i cant see a reason why someone would put non synthetic oil in you should be okay with a top up...

Why not just have the engine oil and filter changed to be on the safe side ?

It cant hurt can it...

Thanks

If you track the car then go for Motul or Silkolene.

There is a stickied thread in General Gassing by Simon of Opie Oils.

If you have any questions just send him a an email.
