Hello everyone, I know that this has been covered to some extent before, but i would greatly appreciate any advice.
I am looking for a small camera for my girlfriend to use for her business and personal use.
On the business side she needs to be able to take great quality pictures for use on her jewelry web site. We want the best quality available in a small package size. Also, besides the camera, what would you suggest for taking photos of small products like jewelry? Lights? A light tent? Any advice would be great!
The personal side is why I want to stay with the smaller form factor. I have plans to get a DSLR and I know that’s the best way to go, but she needs something she can use for everyday things as well. So it needs to be small enough she can throw it in her purse. Also, ease of use is a great selling point here.
So what’s the best compact digital camera? I have read great things about the Canon S80, any other front runners to mention?
Thanks for any help.
Dan

Thanks for all the advice. The canon S80 looks like the best of the bunch, just not sure she will need all the features it packs. Couldnt hurt though!
Does any one have experience using a point and shoot digital camera for product pictures. The most important thing she will use it for is taking pictures of her jewelry in a light tent. The biggest subject will be maybe 2 feet by 2 feet. Can this camera take great pictures in this environment? Any one use the telephoto lense with it?
The only possible issue I see is the optial zoon is only 3.6x But you wont get much better without going to something like the Lumix or Rebel type cameras. I actually saw a D50 for like $500 the other day! Thats a steal.
Anyway, do you think that a point and shoot will hold its own talking these small close up product pictures for her web site and limited advertising?

Can anyone compare the Canon SD700 IS to the S80? The S80 is no longer on Circuit Citys Web Site, is it no longer in production? The image stabilizer and slightly larger zoom on the SD700 looks nice, but does it make up for the loss of mega-pixels?
CC never carried the S80 in stores, and if an item isn't in stock online, they usually take it off the website.
As far as resolution goes, anything higher than 5 or 6 megapixels will pretty much just add noise to your photos, in general.
