I'm not expecting many owners to know the answer to this but here goes...

I need to wire in an a Pioneer RCA to IP-BUS Interconnector into my new stereo head unit. It's for my iPod to work. Anyway, that's all irrelevant really. What I need to do is to find a permanent live and an earth point for this Interconnector. It is going to be positioned hidden away behind the head unit.

I wonder where I should find these connections. Or where I should spur off from? Or should I get an expert to do it? My wiring skills are excellent (I have built a kit car form scratch) but I don't want to mess around with TVR wiring!

Cheers!

That should be a low current supply. Pick both up from the wiring to your new head unit (or if you are fitting that at the same time, from the original radio wiring).

Probably easiest is to take spurs from the head unit feed. IRRC yellow is permenant live and black should be earth. Anyway a volt meter will soon show you which is which and will probably be the best way rather than relying on colour codes. When I changed my head unit I discovered that switched live and permenant live on the very tidely wired in ISO connector(all joints soldered and covered with heat shrink) were switched around so stereo lost memory every time I turned off the ignition. You may find that the head unit already has a permanent feed to it, is the head unit uses the ISO standard connectors and wiring it will be the yellow wire second from the right on the top row when looking towards the back of the radio. The earth wire is top left on the ISO connector.

That's very impressive and quick!

Two things:

1/ The manual says use a 'permanent' live, but the live to my head unit is not permanent. Instead it is wired to 'ignition on'. I guess I can use this? I would prefer this as it means not forgotting to turn the stereo off and draining the battery. If yes, shall i just spur off this 'ignition' live wire?

2/ For the earth, shall I just spur off the head unit earth point?

Following my previous message, a couple of things have alerted me on the wiring instructions:

1/ Never feed power to other equipment by cutting the insulation of the power supply lead of the unit and tapping into the lead. The current capacity of the lead will be exceeded, causing overheating.

and...

2/ Attach the yellow lead to a terminal always supplied with power regardless of ignition switch position.

Help!

Are you fitting the Pioneer CD-iB100 and do you have the Pioneer boot changer? If you do it can all be done at that end, I keep my ipod in the boot for security reasons so it works for me.

Not an issue for the sort of current an ipod draws, always solder connections if you can. Connect any wires to car wiring, not the stereo loom, in other words the car wiring side of the stereo loom plug.

The Chim has no ign switched live so all you need to use is a permanent live supply.

Hi Ribol, when I did mine I found an ignition switched live from the switch, but no AUX position, is this what you meant.

By wiring this way there is no danger of leaving the unit on when the car is unattended.

Yes, this is what I meant, but not much good to you if you are fitting satnav
