The female van driver that smashed into & wrote off my HSV in Dec.05 was in court last week accused off "Due care & attention".
Some of you will remember that she initially told the truth on the Police Accident log book/form, but then changed her story completely, saying that I had hit the kerb & smashed into her. This could have had something to do with the fact that she was insured via the Fiat dealers, that she worked for, Motor Traders policy and didn't want to make a claim.
Fortunately, there was an independent witness who told the truth in her statement.
The stupid thing was that the Police weren't initially interested as it appered that the van was well maintened etc. and had just been unfortunate in having a blow out. It was blatantly obvious to all who attended the scene of the accident, that the van had hit my car, from the damage caused to the vehicles & the marks on the road etc.
As a consequence of her lies, the Police decided to prosecute.
Result: £505 fine & 9 points which led to her being disqualified.
What a numpty!

What is rather frustrating, is that they (her & her bosses) lied badly to Norwich Union, which IMO should be treated as a crime. According to my solicitor, this is common practise now & the Insurance co.s don't want to do anything about for fear of bad publicity! So if you haven't got an independent witness & someone smashes into you, there is a good chance you'll be blamed! Which IMO sucks.

how did you get the police interested?????
Good question. The crash was bad, I had to be cut out, so there was a lot of emergency services & plod involved. In such cases plod complete an Accident Report Book (or log form can't recall exactly) and there is a section in it where you have to describe briefly what happened & sign it. Sort of a mini statement. I did this in hospital when plod turned up to do this as well as breathaylse me. Fortunately, plod had also taken a statement from a driver who had been someway behind me & seen it all happen.
The accident happened on a Fri. on the Mon. I found out that the van driver was blaming me. I phoned the Policewoman who had spoken to me at the scene & told her this, she laughed as it was such bo**ox.
All accidents of this severity are recorded & logged etc. & end up at the Accident Support Unit, if it is decided that further info. is required, it was in my case, they send you a full statement form to complete.
So the van driver sent in a full statement which completely contradicted what she had originally stated after the crash.
Smelling a rat, plod pay her a visit, she continues to blatantly lie which plod sussed. Plod recommend to the CPS that she be prosecuted. CPS decide that it is a valid case with enough evidence etc. Numpty van driver gets summoned. I did not have to attend.
Not quite full closure yet, the compensation battle for injuries & loss of earnings will be a long one I fear.
I'd love another 4dr HSV, but a new one, which at present isn't really possible. Having run big powerful saloons for the last 12 yrs (HSV's for 5 years), I'm hankering after something really light & nimble (Caterham SV). Also whenever I read about the 7.0lt ZO6 I'm really impressed, despite being on record as saying I wouldn't have a LHD performance car!

The good thing about plastic cars is they don't have to cut you out of them

Wise words indeed & one of the reasons why there is a new Discovery 3 HSE on my drive.
Seeing the state of my HSV after a 30mph (both vehicles travelling at that speed) collision was scary. Can't imagine what it would have been like at 150mph. Infact, that's another reason for the Land Rover (my dog probably outperforms it).
Most fun things in life are dangerous though!

Z06 now you are talking!!!!
After seeing them thunder around Le Mans again boy I would love one I do not think being a left hooker would put me off either.
Good luck with the compensation work.

Thanks Sean, why the change in name btw?
The ZO6 lump in an HSV would be nice, I suppose it could be a slim possibility.
I've just read/seen so many brilliant reviews of the ZO6. Even Tiff Needell is singing It's praises & he's renowned for trashing anything from the US. I'd love to try one, wondering what a used one would cost in a couple of years.
