Why is it we still pay sooooo over the odds for kit over here ?

Just been looking at Akrapovic exhausts for the R6. Full system.

Cost here £849.00

Cost in US $849.00

Thats half price !!!

i got quoted £1100 or so for a full system for my bike its just a joke, you might as well order from the US and have it shipped over.

p.s. do you have a link to the site you saw that price on?

Hobo, you need to budget for a PC III and a rolling road session, as a full system will require a remap.

Yes, I understand I need a Powercommander & probably ignition module.

Costs wise these 2 items are less than 1/2 price in US to what they are over here.

you don't really *need* the ignition module, but it is the icing on the cake! More important to stop the motor running hot through running lean with the full zorst.

Just checked with customs as the only grey area was what duty I would pay to bring the item into the uk, however its only 3.7%.

So:

Akrapovic full race exhaust system $849.95
Dynojet power commander III USB $258.95
Carriage $150
TOTAL $1258.9 (equating to £694.55)
Plus 3.7% Duty = £719.68.

Over here it would cost:

Exhaust £850
Power commander £275
TOTAL £1125

SAVING OF £405.32

Hobo, you only pay duty on the value of the goods, so exclude the shipping cost from your calculation. Makes it (slightly) cheaper. Note that the standard PC III does not have an ignition module as standard....

The duty quoted above would appear to be import duty only and VAT at 17.5% would be charged in addition. May be wrong but that is how I understand it.

Yep, you'll get hung out to dry by the old customary exercise.

Been there done that. Also factor in that the courier will try to deliver whilst you're at work (normally 11.00am for some odd reason), then you got to go and collect the blasted stuff from some far flung warehouse!
