whats your opinions on keeping the car you bought original. Just a wee question as i prefer to keep it as the showroom sent it out? or do you prefer to spend thousands on your wedge when you can always buy a chimp or a griff and let the pros modify it for you?

Catch 22 me thinks replys welcome

Not sure what 'original' is don't think any two Wedges came out of the factory the same, sometimes it's a bit hit and miss finding replacement parts.

I'd go for anything that improves the handling and enhances the drive.

I always apply the philosophy of 'in keeping' when it comes to the wedge... if it COULD have been done by the factory then it's OK. If it's a mod. that could have been done aftermarket at the time the car was current then probably OK.
If it's 'let's drop a 600hp twin-turbo 10,000 rpm Jap engine in because there's one in the shed' then perhaps not.
However certain things will become necessary with the passage of time: not so much engine mods because there will be thousands of spare V8s around for years yet but maybe braking/ suspension as aftermarket suppliers move on, and certain cosmetics because you just won't be able to get Renault indicators or TR7 switches.
Some of us are already stockpiling things like headlamp motors

For examples, my car is getting cruise control (for those long motorway bits where you can stop worrying about speed cameras and give your foot a rest) and has homebrew indicators that will cost £2 to replace instead of £50... the cruise is ex-SD1 so if anyone wanted it when new, TVR probably COULD have fitted it...

My sentiments exactly sir just my preference to keep the car as original as it can be. At the end of the day what ferrari porsche or even japaneese owner can have a convertable with a V8 at the price TVR sells at i rest my case

I think it depends whether you just want a show car for driving around puddles in, or something to drive every day and enjoy.
It makes me laugh when I see these sixties classics poodling everywhere at 40mph, when I think back to me driving them (in much worse condition) round bends on two wheels at 70mph plus as a young lad, with no harm done.

My 280 wasn't fast enough.
My 390 wasn't fast enough, and this 400 isn't fast enough, so maybe have to pinch the engine out of a dragster or something.

Anyway, to finally answer your question, I think YES try to keep it as original as possible as far as fixtures and fittings go (including the wheels and tyres), but do what you like to the drivetrain, as there were so many variations in that department as 'standard', that you'll struggle to find an 'original'.

Where do you draw the line at fast enough though back in 1984 this apart from the AM v8 vantage was the fastest road car produced for the time i myself like u always want a faster and better handling car but there is a time where you say this was the best car produced when i was looking through magazines just dreaming of owning a car like that someday. And now i do thats enough for me graham

This is not to discount the fact that some things like a roll cage are A Good Idea, and you can never have too much power... but IMHO for example only certain wheels suit Wedges; most of the modern blinging things are only 'right' on a Corsaxuntesta or an X5 (and even then not always). Of necessity though, more Wedges will acquire aftermarket 16" or 17" wheels as supplies of 15" tyres dry up.
That said, I rather suspect that due to falling prices, more Wedges will fall into the hands of those who are unable to drive with any reserve and will end up wrapped round trees, or scrapped due to uneconomical repairs being required, in the next few years...

Thats hit the nail right on the preverbrial head but as for the falling prices issue i think the prices will stay the same for alot of years due to the marque itself

Probably I was spoilt, having Lotus 7s in the 1970s.

Nothing came near them, not even the TVRs of that era.
