New Rover advert on TV

For those of you who have seen the genius branding exercise of the new Rover advert, here is my interpretation:


The Rover 25, for people who misjudge spaces

was about to post on this, what a crap advert, I can get the idea that it feels like a really big car but all it puts across the notion that it feels really cumbersome to drive

"Long may I not suffer Head Gasket Failure" is the best support I can muster for Rover.
Horrible cars driven by complete ****wit numpties.

Only until they fit the 1.8 litre motor out of the Celica!

If thats the motor they go with so what?? - Toyota do excellent engines - 2litre MR2 Turbo puts out 250bhp+, quite content with Rover power at mo' - top top motor -quite fast enough 4 me and you

Am not disparaging Toyota engines! (They're made by Yamaha anyway?)

K series is a damn fine engine (104 bhp from 1.4 not bad for mass market)

Just saying you can NEVER have too much power in a well balanced chassis.

Dan know what you mean - there is never enough power!! I just get a tad neurotic when people slack off the K series - it is a truely superb motor - never had any probs with it - designed by Honda IIRC. In a straight line only car been blown away with was a TVR Tuscan - and I do mean blown away - what do they feed them on??

Clanger, have just checked out your collection so much respect!

Have 3 running vehicles in my collection. They all produce around 165 bhp, but in very different ways:
1100cc 16v & Carbs (1996, 10,500rpm)
2.5 24v V6 with Fuel Injection (1994 6,500rpm)
2.0 V8 with Carbs (1975, 7,700rpm)

The big difference is torque!

Isn't the variety of internal combustion engines a wonderful thing!

(2.0 V8 sounds the best!)

Dan Hay know what you mean I just love the ol' internal combustion engine, yep all 3 of my cars are so different in way they deliver power -love all of 'em to bits - can't part with any of them...

danhay - for the first time Ive found how to get into Members cars spot - 208GT - top, top car - I love 'em Many years ago had a 246GT Dino (bought for £2750!!)loved that car but spares were a tad on the dear side at time couldn't afford to keep it -how I regret selling it!! - what are Ferrari running costs like these days??

The ad that really psises me off is the "Daddy Cool" ad for the Vauxhall Zafira. If I turned up to pick up my kids in one of these suburban dustcarts they would not only refuse to get in, they'd apply for adoption. "My Dad's got a Zafira" must surely be the cue for a playground pounding.

The other one I really hate is the patronising one for (I think) Hyundai or one of the other really crappo brands, the "think before you drive" campaign. If you were stupid enough to buy such a heap of junk you probably would prefer to walk so maybe it has a point.

I used to love having an early 214Si as a hire car when they first came out. Compared to the equivalent Ford/Citroen/Fiat 1.4 engines of the time it was a gem!

Dan do you use the 208 on a regular basis? - are they practicable for e/day use? - did you import it? 208/308 are so soo under-rated - every so often I get this urge to buy another Ferrari!! - a mate gave me free use of his 308GTB (glassfibre) for 3 months whilst he was abroad in the early 80's. Love my Lotus's but Ferrari moves ownership up another level. Only make I would consider move to.

i'd agree with that, even my driving goes all to pot when i'm driving my mums 214, it just doesn't do handling!!!

the K-series engine is quite nice though, unfortuantly my mums is only 8v. grr!!!

Clanger - I try and use the 208 at least twice a week, but it's difficult with all the salt on the roads at the mo. Because I did import it from Italy, there's not much rustproofing!
