Colleague of mine has a parking ticket from a pay & display supermarket carpark (but council run), but the ticket has the wrong vehicle registration number on it (one digit out). Ticket has correct make of car written on it.

She has 14 days to pay £30, or £60 if paid within 28 days.

Considering it has the wrong reg, would this be enforcable?

Cheers in advance...

edit for typo, additional info

Surely it's been stuck on the wrong car then?

Stuck on car.

Apparently, local council "photograph every vehicle where ticketing is necessary".

Obviously, any check with DVLA won't point to her vehicle (and therefore, address), but they then may check the photo - obviously, this would take time, potentially going past the 14/28 days, resulting in additional charges?

As 7db is implying, if it has been posted, they have all the details they need to prosecute. If its the note on the screen and they havnt wrote to you, then they may have problems tracing you if they have the wrong reg, hence maybe getting away with it.

Unless they have a photograph showing the correct plate.

But where's the continuity of evidence, if the ticket has one registration on it, and the photo has a different registration on it? It certainly isn't beyond the realms of possibility that there's another identical car with with a registration in sequence to the one ticketed.

I remember a few years ago I had a blue Vectra, registration P277TPN. On one trip to Dundee, 170 miles from home, I parked next to another blue Vectra, registered P275TPN.

i got 4 fines in the last month, one of which was from a supermarket car park, but it was from a private run subcontractor not the council - so I didn't pay. I'm sure these ones aren't enforceable through the courts at all, but being council run I think it is i'm afraid.

a friend of mine just sent me this as well, I think I'm gonna join up because it's my only hope of not paying out hundreds - www.fcukfines.com - seems like a decent idea and its free to register your mobile number on there

Did you DEFINITELY breach the signed rules of the car park?

I got a ticket recently for "leaving the site" having parked at a retail park in Nottingham (duh, it was 30 mins before the shops opened, I went for a walk!). Wrote to ticketing company (PO Box in London), they rejected my evidence - wrote again telling them that they should have another look at it...and 3 months later have heard nothing, so hopefully I'm in the clear.

my asumption would be

someone else got the ticket and put it on your car hoping you would pay for it

they have to supply correct paperwork in the first place!!!!!

they also have to place it on the car!!!!

they also have to know the make!!!!!

suggest you get somethig de badged and strange

Hmm, last few posts read as if it's me with the ticket - it ain't by the way.

To answer a couple of the points though, I think they've ticketed her correctly (ie, she was parked in the supermarket car park, didn't pay because she was only going to get a couple of items and wouldn't spend enough to get the supermarket to reimburse the parking fee at the checkout).

The car reg is very distinctive (last three are the woman's initials), so I don't think it's a case of ticket on wrong car.

Obviously, without the prospect of the car being photographed, I'd advise her to forget about the ticket, because wrong reg = no way to trace her (forgetting the rights/wrongs of not paying for a ticket, I'm not moralising here). However, with a photo, I'm not so sure - but the comments about continuity of evidence I think are interesting...

Cheers for the replys, folks.

I got done by police for parking my motorbike on the pavement whilst I popped to the cash machine in town. They put the day before's date on the ticket whcih was obviously not right and a day when I was elsewhere. I still got done though. I was told that the persons inability to write correctly did not deny the fact that I still commited the offence.... So I coughed up

Fool!

Is this ticket for your colleague issued by a "private" company (Parking enforcement), ie non-council / non-plod? I'm not sure how enforcable these are...although this doesn't mean they're not!

If you have a £30 ticket for a valid reason then just pay it.

1) If it is a valid reason then quit trying to wriggle out of it
2) £30 ain't exactly a fortune

Bin it!
Wait till they send a reminder. They would have to do that because if someone removed it before owner came back they would be none the wiser.

Parking tickets are not dealt with by a court, it was decriminalised and you have to go to a traffic and parking adjudicator if you want to contest it.
