The title says it all really.

I'm looking at getting a new 'compact' digital, so fancy a Coolpix S4 because it's very neat and has a 10x optical zoom which is ideal for the wife so she can take pics of me sprinting the TVR.

Thanks in advance.

it is often said that jessops do price match but im not sure. i was out looking for a very basic digital camera for my gf a few days ago and stopped into jessops to see what they had on offer.

in their catalogue it did mention price matching but only for SLR cameras.
i didnt ask tehm about price matching for other cameras simply because the person behind the counter showed no apparent knowledge of anything photographic.

It seems it's all to do with manager's discretion. Sometimes they do, and sometimes they don't, some shops do and some shops don't. It's just worth asking.

They price matched for me on a Casio Exilim Z50 valued around £300. They only matched Amazon though and said they couldn't do company XYZ which was £20 less because they just couldn't beat it. I, however, thought that a £20 premium to buy from jessops was well worth it versus random internet company!

Phone and ask...very easy to do.

Go in on a wet Wednesday morning near the end of the month and you've a much higher chance of haggling than on a busy Saturday.

They did when I bought my DSC T7, knocked £40 off to match with the internet.
I guess it also depends on the store as it's managers discretion.

when i looked at the weekend there was a big sign in the digital camera cabinet saying "we will not be beaten" i told them that harrods had cameras cheaper than them to which they didnt have much to say back!

They took £100 off a 350d for me when I took in a printout from a web dealer. They would only match UK based sites though.

They've done it for me every time I asked. At one time they would match anything, then it was UK e-tailers, then it was certain listed sites, then it was matching advertised price plus delivery charge, so their policy does seem to vary from month to month - but they'll usually try to match the major internet retailers such as Amazon. I found giving them a printed copy of the web page as reference to be an effective negotiating tool.

The last time I went in (Uxbridge branch - last week) I was told categorically "No, we do not price-match any more"

Got a Canon 5D last Sunday ..... they price matched and as a result I got it £150 cheaper than their store price !

FWIW their asst manager said their own rules change almost fortnightly and they are finding it difficult to keep up with the head offices new rules !

Thanks for all the replies, in the end I got the S4 from Costco, was cheaper than ANY online retailer, and none were in stock at Jessops locally.

I always go to a small local camera shop rather than Jessops. The wife's Minolta they knocked £100 off the price and that wasn't even a proper price match - I pointed out it would be cheaper for me to get a return flight to Jersey and buy it in a shop there (where I'd seen it originally) and they knocked it off to prove willing!

I think with Jessops it depends very much on which store you go into and who you speak to ...... some are very good and extremely knowledgeable whereas one assistant I spoke to didn't know who Tamron were or what they produced !!!
