Having just bought a nice alpine amp for the car,a mechanic friend of mine said he wouldn't even think of fitting it in a fibreglass car because of fire risk, anyone agree / disagree, or have any positive / negative experiences please?

Any car will catch fire if you mess the wiring up bad enough(takes some doing), the only difference between a glass fibre car and a metal one is how much is left when they finish burning.

I think the clue is in the job title - i.e. Mechanic not autosparks.

Must ask my mechanic what he thinks about my mortgage arrangements.

The only problem with fibreglass cars is making sure you get a good earth return to the battery. If you run a heavy cable and make a nice earth stud in the boot no probs.
