Some how the swirl tank inlet hose has sprung a leak not the rubber hose but the metal connection part. It looks like the power steering pump pully has been catching it and wore a hole in it?. Wierd thing is though the pully is a good 2 inches away. Even when reving hard and a bit of load it's no where near. Engine mounts look OK?

Anyone out there had this happen?

I'd still think it was the engine mountings. In normal driving conditions it's amazing just how much the engine does move around.

A bit of reinforcing fibre from the PAS belt loose and being flung out as belt rotates. Over time that would wear away the alloy.

Anyone give advise on where to get engine mounts from and is it an easy job?
I've seen treads saying they are similar to old triumph straight six's but I'm sure that is the case I have a Triumph and they do look different.

YES! Big style!

Engine mountings. The one on that side sits between the exhaust and manifold, and gets roasted. Mine had actually sheared through completely, and the exposed faces of the rubber was melted. For me the neck went with a bang when I went over a speed hump. Took the head gasket with it. I had other issues, as the air filter was disconnected from the intake hose and the car was hoovering up crap - which may have been due to excessive movement on the failed mount as well. I ended up with a complete rebuild, new liners, pistons, cam, and lots of machining, as some of the crap being hoovered up had jammed the throttle wide open and bounced it off the limiter for longer than it liked. Being strapped for cash and working like a trojan to get some, the rebuild has so far taken six months!

There is always a set on ebay - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Morgan-8-TVR-En

I don't think genuine TVR ones are available any more, but there is not a lot of difference with these. I'd take steps to reduce the heat damage too - I have had the manifolds ceramic coated, and will be wrapping the mounting with heat shielding as well.

BTW - my mounts LOOKED OK as well - but they weren't! The rubber had sheared off the matal backing cleanly, and was resting on it with no visible gap. Try jacking the engine up (carefully, mind the sump!) and see if the rubber moves away from the metal.

Thanks Victor I'm going to take a good look at it some time this week and replace the mounts anyway.

Sorry to hear about your missfortune. Hopefully fingers crossed I haven't done any damage it let go about 100 yds from home and I stopped the car imediatedly. The girls and boys in the street took great pleasure telling me my car was on fire as the water was evaporating on the exhaust.

Typical the only time we have a heat wave and I'm under the car instead of in the car but I still wouldn't part with it.

those mounting are SD1 rover V8 and are still available from rover at a price give TVR spares a ring, you will also find the o/s/f manifold is rubbing on the chassis underneath it.if the mountings are bad will cause manifold to fracture or bolts come loose.also the downpipe steady where it meets the motor will fracture too, worth checking all of this.good luck.
