I can't believe you are struggling to sell a Chim at that price. I mean the colours not offensive or anything. As it got any dodgy history or problems?

No its a genuine car that i got off of james agger 2 years ago,i think the mileage might be putting people off as its got 74500 on the clock other than that it got fsh,mot till nov and a bit of tax.

obvious question have you put it in the classifieds on here or tried autotrader? Is there any work needs doing on it?

mileage scares a lot of people off on these cars,it shouldent but does i got a good deal on my car because of the mileage & drove a car with half the mileage dident have a patch on my high miler, anyway i think its probably not helping your sale. new TVR owners are obsessed with the car having done no more than about 2K every year i reckon.like superbike buyers and low mileage obsessions and its bu*lshit

I heard that the rover engine is more than capable of doing 200k so again not sure why that would be an issue looking at the price

its been on autotrader 4 times now and its been on pistoneads since november.Theres nothing wrong with the car apart from a small tear in the rear screen.Maybe that the price being to low is putting people off,the only reason i am selling her is that i lost my job last october and i am now earning half what i was and i had to buy a van

Some cars just seem to sell from the classifieds with little info and one pic, certainly seen worse ads than yours. However if yours is stuck here is what I would do, call it a bit of Ad Doctoring.

Price.

Your ad on PH states £8250, not much difference to £7995 I know but there are some cars on PH starting at just high £6k's. Now not saying yours isn't worth what you are asking, but physcologically their ads start with a 6 and yours starts with an 8 so the brain is saying £2K gap when the reality might be only £1k, bring it down into the £7's on the ad if that is what you are looking for.

Wording.

Your ad states that it has to go because you are skint, now this may be the case but don't shout that in your ad because it screams to me that things might have been skimped on over the recent months. By all means explain your reasons for sale, but word it in such a way as to not scare people off - make them believe you love the car and want it to pass onto someone who is in a situation to look after it in the same way you have been to date.

Along with the above, a bit more detail about it's history, dates and mileages of the services and who did them can't hurt. The more you show that you know about the car, the more people will believe you are an enthusiast and therefore become more trusting and less worried about the mileage. Discuss openly the usual suspects of Tvr weakpoints to show you really know about the car; mention the chassis condition, any cracking on dash, how it copes with hot start (mention the hot start mod if it has had it).

Format all the above out into digestable paragraphs rather than lumping it all into one chunk, this is the beauty of PH compared to Autotrader, you really get to go to town with your wording and layout so make sure you use it.

Pics.

Would definately also get some interior pics and a few more external ones, people love pics. Also try to get some done in a slightly more picturesque setting, oddly enough sportscars always look great parked on grass or at least next to. I guess it conjours up lifestyle aspirations of driving off into the country and stopping off for a picnic lunch. You need to sell the dream.

Something like this one from the classifieds :

Good luck

Thanks for that touching, its on autotrader for 7995 i have yet to alter the one on pistoneads,i understand were your coming from but the people that have been to view have been put off by me saying that they need plenty of tlc so i am trying a different approach and try not to mention to many technical jargon and just hope that the looks and the sound will sell it.

I spoke to rob ingleby the other day as I am in the process of selling my 450.

Rob said that the market was definitely depressed and that the factory announcement hadn't helped the market.

When quizzed on the best place to advertise, Rob recommended the Pistonheads classifieds and also Sprint.

Hi there

Maybe try advertising on Freenet car classifieds.Have seen one or other Tuscan on there but deffinately no Chim in this pricerange. At that price buyers from other markets where not as many Chims are for sale might be interrested.

Cheers Jens

Hi Bob

Have you tried asking a dealer how much they would give you for it? I would have thought that if yours is nice, they should be not too far away from your asking price.

Maybe the ripped back window is putting people off. That could affect people's overall opinion and give the impression that other things may have been left with the car.

May have to bite the bullet and get the window fixed before you can sell it, should be able to ask a little more to off set the cost as well. But overall it would look more attractive with the window sorted.

Call me shallow but I would probably walk away if I saw a car with this.

Hi Bob

That's my old car - I can vouch for its history if you need to get me involved.
