Oil and water checks

I know that these should be done weekly, but whilst the engine is hot or cold (for oil at least)

Also, what grade of oil is recommended?

I check the oild and water every week OR every 2 or 3 uses of the car (if normal distance journeys).
I use Mobil 1 motorsport. I think 15 50w ?

I check both of mine with the engine cold every time I go out in it. My logbook says use Mobil 1 0w-40 so that is what I put in. Simple really.

Sorry dude but there's no way I'd use 0w-40 in a Cerbera!

15w-50 is spot on or even 20w-50 if you can get a good synthetic.

The AJP8 is a loose engine to say the least and I can't see it suiting a thin oil.

Personally Id check with paul or heath at the factory before changing your oil spec

Fernies told me to use a slightly thicker oil, however I really didn't want to sway away from the TVR recommended Mobil 1 0-40 - I'm sure they tell you to use it for a reason!! A quick email to and reply from Opie Oils sealed it for me and I've stuck to the TVR recommended Oil. By the way, I can highly recommend Opie Oils - 4Ltrs Mobil 1 0-40 delivered to my door within 2 days for £36 all in.
For the V8, check it cold on a level surface. A good tip another Cerbie PH gave me is to leave the dip stick out for a while (10-15 minutes ought to do it) before dipping to get a good reading. Mine probably uses a Ltr for 1k miles and I check it every few days (including the water and power steering fluid). And I like to keep it on the Max mark.

Indeed, I stick to the reccomended, well close I use Mobil 1 0w40.

Good for pressure when hot and a little thinner for those cold starts.

Having asked the question of which oil to Al Melling himself, his reply was (I'm paraphrasing) 'You can run it on anything as long as it's changed regularly', and that's from the guy that designed it!
