Time to start looking for a new toy,the kids have nearly finished prep school, the builders have nearly finished the house (after 14 months...full time), the business are doing well and I currently don't run a company car of any kind.

Budget is around £40 k deposit and funded by £650 a month from each of my 4 company's a total of £2600 a month and that's got to insure and maintain it but not put fuel in the tank.

What I`m looking for......
I do a few (way to many ...)trips to the bottom end of Cornwall nor with the kids and my wife.
I do a few (nowhere near enough...) trips to the bottom end of Cornwall with just my wife
I do about 10 away football matches a year with just my wife
I do around 10 away matches with the family
Other than that it would be just me on high days and holidays. A 2+2 would be good but not a necessity. It has to push the right buttons, it has to sound better than the Merak with a sports exhaust, its got to be more brutal than the 930 (still is not a lot better sensation than a 930 turbo hitting boost, may be its the dreadful breaks and the poor handling. Its got to be as good fun to drive as the CSL and as practical as the MGB and a comfy as the Royce.
Going to post a short list over the week end and start looking next week.
Your recommendations would be greatly received.. but no buy a second hand 360 and a ariel atom please, its got to be just one car this time.

3200GT?
Comfy
Four seats
The "boost" thing
Brutal if you want it to be
Different
Sounds good
Looks good
Goes good
Practical for a coupe

Plus £40K would buy you a late Assetto Corsa (manual, 'nach) AND enough money to run it with ease.

Marc I think you should consider a new BMW M5 - breathtaking performance and handling even with the wife & two kids on board!

My wife realy loves the qudraporte, saw one in London and she was well impressed. Who is the best person to talk to with regards to purchase a supercar ? what can I get for 2k a month with a 40k deposit ? I realy like the 612 but would it be in my price range ?
Having a go in a Vanquish on Monday. I also like the Lambos and the new 599 feza.
thanks for your help so far,
marc

I almost bought a Vanquish a couple of years ago, but the dealer advised that if it was my only car (more or less true at the time) it wouldn't be a good idea. The gearbox being the issue (reliability of). I still love them, but it's a lot of money for a car that even the dealer expects to cause trouble...I'm guessing that an early car should be possible around the 85k mark (perhaps less) these days.

The 599 is a two seater only. Awesome piece of kit. But also the talk of the town at the moment so you'll be looking at a wait and well over 170k.

612s are available for around the 140k mark at present (used). Allow 3k per annum to run it and probably 1-2k for insurance etc. I'm therefore sure some manner of almost sensible finance could easily be arranged to cover the cost.

The Quattroporte is a lovely machine (black is best), but it's several rungs below the 612 IMO. Cost if correspondingly lower (believe these are 70-80k new).

Residuals are the only downer on both of these. They *may* do OK as both are raved about. But you should expect to lose about 20k in a year on either I would think. And you'll definitely need to offload them before the warrranty rus out!!

With your requirements, I'd go with one of these. Either would be something that'd be nice just to look at in your driveway, but it'd have to be the Ferrari if funds allow.

PS If you're in Hampshire, Meridien Modena have a nice black 612 in (you *must* see these cars in the flesh as photos never do them justice):

www.meridien.co.uk/car_details.asp?ID=4154

And also a selection of Quattroportes (this one's sold, and I think crema interiors are nicer, but gives an idea):

www.meridien.co.uk/car_details.asp?ID=4233

Another idea could be a 456. These are decent value used I think, but potentially expensive to look after (not as well built as the 612 is likely to be). I also think Peugeot did it no favors when it released the 406 Coupe! Meridien also have one of these:

www.meridien.co.uk/car_details.asp?ID=4243 (interior's a bit choice, but you'd be able to get a feel for all three cars at one place, hence mentioning them - personally I'm not a fan of the approved network as a rule of thumb!).

the 612 is a truly stunning car in the flesh but don't discount the old 456. you could get a nice 456MGT.

edit: didn't see last post! good look with the QP! (they look great in black BTW!)
