I was out in my 97 5.0L Chimaera this morning, driving for around 20 minutes - so the engines comfortably at around 80 degrees - when, all of a sudden, the car started doing a very passable impression of Herbie as the windscreen wipers came to life, and the indicators switched themselves on (but not blinking, just a constant glow). This happened a couple of times, for around 20 minutes at a time. On both occasions, it's when the engines warmed up after at least 15 to 20 minutes on the road.

As a result, the brake lights have stopped working - (although I'd put this down to a dodgy switch) - and the wiper motor seems to have killed itself. Does anyone have any idea what this electrical glitch owes itself to?

Good point, but my lights were off at the time. I toggled them on and off during the windscreen wiping extravaganza, but they appeared to be completely fine and independent of the shenanigans that were occuring.

Sounds like an earthing fault and its backfeeding through the indicators to find an earth check all the earthing points

hope this helps

Is cutting back the bad earth and resoldering it, a particularly lengthy operation?

Because TVR Barnet are trying to charge me nearly £500 for this. TVR mechanics are really starting to take the joy out of owning one of these. If there are any decently priced honest TVR experienced mechanics you've tried out, I sure would like to hear about them!

Dave Batty at The Garage in Compton (nr. Guildford) is your man, and according to multimap is just over an hour away from you.
