I've mentioned in another thread (S Values) that Im coming across to England (Im from Northern Ireland) on Monday morning (10th Feb) to pick up my S2.

Now what Im looking for is advice on the weather conditions for my trip home, I'll be going from Buckinghamshire to Stranaer then HSS Boat to Belfast.

Therefore basically M40 - M6 - A75 roughly 400 miles. Now this trip is not that big, but in a car I don't know, in this dodgey weather, Im just a bit nervous.

Im sure PHers are well spread across the country and Im looking for reports on weather conditions along this route.

So here's hoping for some good weather reports !

I often use yahoo weather. It's quick and reasonably accurate. Happy motoring...

I've checked bbc's weather page and others pages on the internet and im reasonably happy the weather *should* be ok, but what Im looking for is people who are actually near this route to tell me what the weather is like literally on the ground.

I think the M40, M6 will be no problems what-so-ever, but the A75 is a different matter with it's hills and corners .

Snow/Ice in a TVR S2 (which has no LSD remember) would be tricky at the best of times, but also remember this is my first time driving this car as well !

Thanks for the advice so far.....

If I was you (Id be chuffed getting an S), i would drive around for a while, on quiet roads, near where you bought it. Get a bit of an idea how it handles before you hit the M roads.
Take it easy, and good luck.

I intend to do that, get to know the car before going too far, but Im up against it time wise, the boat leaves at 19:35 and I have to be there 45 mins beforehand.

I hope to leave Bucks as early as I can, but it's gonna be about 10am before I can get on the road, leaving me with a reasonable 8 1/2 hours to travel 400 miles (avg 50mph), not too bad as most of it is motorway but a couple of roadworks/accidents would soon wipe that out.

And when i arrive at the A75, as long as I haven't been held up on the motorway I should be ok to cruise along this road provided there is no ice.

This is the main reason Im asking for advice, people on the ground will know what the roads are really like.

A friend of mine picked up a car(Subaru Impreza WRX) a month ago to bring home from Bath and with no probs made the trip in 7 hours, with one stop of about 45 mins. Now he didn't go hard and didn't come across any accidents/road works (amazing).

Again thanks for your replies so far.

No replies on the weather situation ?

Well it is looking like it will be ok, weather reports are definately showing increases in temp, so looks like the mini adventure is on.

I'll let you all know how it goes when i get back (if?)

Did you want to know the weather on yesterday or next Monday, most people's sea weed isn't that good.

Second long trip in my S, snow on outside lane of dual carriage way - NOOOoooo - overtaking wasn't a very good idea. If it rains check tread depth on front, if near limit beware of aqua planing in puddles. Overwise you'll be fine.

I am reliably informed by "a friend" that Bucks to Stranraer can be done in 5 1/2 - 6 hours, so 8 1/2 should be plenty.

excellent, With the temp rising as we speak (still cold, but not freezing) Im sure I'll be ok to make it, Car problems are the only thing to worry about, but Im sure the car is fine.... just you never know with a new car

Thanks for the info

Apart from the weather, you might be interested in traffic problems - bring your mobile and dial 1740 for specific motorway reports (RAC) - but then, you might already know this...sorry if that's so.
Cheers,
Paul.
