Anyone been through there since it's been opened? I hope there are'nt any cameras on it yet, else I'm in trouble!

As tunnels go it's a bit on the short side! After all the fuss about building it, I expected it to be at least as long as the Hatfield tunnel.

Been through it shortly after it opened at enthusiastic speeds - nothing in the post.

I agree that it's a little short - not as good as Hatfield for acoustic testing.

There's a bypass tunnel now?? :O

I used to live in Saffron Walden and for work I often used to go via Baldock,
watched with interest all the road works etc - knew they were doing a bypass
but a tunnel?!!! Any pics?

No cameras yet, it is short but being uphill in one direction does allow you to use a bit of throttle

God it needed that - the last mile on the way into Baldock was always a tail back at most times of the day.

There are still tail-backs - they moved down to the A1M junction for a while while the slip road was being modified - work is due to start on modifying the A1M northbound slip road Right pita if you live in Letchworth & need to use the A1M

Nasty crash there the other night -looked like a lorry had gone onto the back of the queue, I just knew that was going to happen eventually. There will be a really big smack there one day caused by the muppets who are too important to queue in the inside lane and decide to stop in lane 2 and push-in nearer the front - there have been a couple of close calls so far but one day a bad one will happen. This queue is now far worse with more muppets since the bypass has opened so take care near J9 northbound!

The tunnel is a bit too short, high and wide to really get a good roar - I tried it at the weekend. According to my just updated RoadAngel, there are no cameras yet and I certainly didn't see any (which was a good thing).

I use the Baldock bypass frequently. I takes 15 minutes of the journey to see my folks north of Royston.

Brilliant bypass, and no cameras as yet as far as I know. I'm sure it won't be long though...

I was off to Cambridge on Saturday and back yesterday. I use it frequently because my parents-in-law live in Buntingford. The problem is that I have to go off at the first exit and double back to be able to use the A507 and get my mini Fuchsroehre experience.

Use it every day and it is a huge improvement going south, but as everyone says, coming off northbound is now a pain in the ass, they are building a slip road so it should improve. You can give it large I spose because it is a nice clear, long straight but for some reason I always imagine some twot with a laser sitting above the tunnel as I barrel out at mach 3

Yeah, no cameras on the new bit just yet - checked on Saturday too!

Interestingly, some of the A505 cameras toward Royston are missing - horrah! Still doesn't stop everyone dropping to 50mph to go past them...

The 507 is a great road, but don't tell everyone! (says he, mentioning it on the internet, but I'm amongst like-minded people here)

hehe yeah, used to do the trip every monday morning, filling up with Optimax at the shell on the dual cariageway ( company car didn't car about cost) and yup, the cameras stayed the same for years, then some bugger kept removing them! A507 is a nice road when it's clear too.
