This is at the top of the Facts and Figures page of www.safecam.org.uk

Thirty-two roadside cameras in Avon and Somerset have been “decommissioned” because the casualty rates had dropped since they were installed and they no longer met that Government criteria.

Mr Bowen, project manager of the Safety Camera Project said fixed cameras were only used at locations where at least four people had been killed or seriously injured in the past three years.

Now unless I'm missing something isn't this complete nonsense? If they really believe that these cameras were responsible for the drop in casualty rates why decommission them????

Maybe they're now going to wait for 4 people to be killed at each site before re-instating them! It'll be a long, long wait!

Can anybody decipher what seems to be complete bo**ocks?

I've just posted the following on their feedback page because I felt like it, and I gave my full contact details hoping for a comment.

I find it very hard to believe that 32% of crashes as you call them are "speed related". However, whether it is accurate or not, I'd be very interested to understand how your campaign addresses the causes of the other 68% of crashes.

They'll not reply to that one. Can't cope with difficult questions.

Might be worth asking for the locations of decommissioned cameras, I don't believe it.

Perhaps we should ask them why they are not dealing with the 100% cause of crashes...driver error, usually caused through poor training, lack of attention or stupidity.

Perhaps they meant to say 'revenue rates had dropped' and they mno longer met 'Partnership Criteria'
