Can anyone help with a "revs" problem?
I had a cam replaced under warranty and the car drove like a dream for a while. Now it appears to be pinking, so I gather the timing will need fixing. My main worry is this weekend, after doing some 400 miles with no problems, the car's revs don't seem to drop below 2000 rpm when idling. Once the car is stationery, after about 10 secs the revs return to normal idle speed, approx 1000 rpm. I can tell between gear change that the revs are higher than they should be. This has only started today when the engine is hot. When I parked and started after some two hours, the revs were fine, then when the engine got hot again they went up. The car was serviced six weeks ago, hence the cam change, and there appeared to be no further problems then.
I have not had time to check the stepper motor. Could this be the problem? Any advice would be most helpful.
Thanks in advance.

Check the vacuum advance Module on the distributor has'nt come loose, there are two small screws holding it on to the body.
This happened to my Chim on a track day years ago ,started pinking badly ,thought i'd mullered the engine , turned out these screws had vibrated loose knocking the Timing way out.

Thanks for your assistance Whitechimp500.
Upon closer inspection, found the stepper motor was slightly loose so have tightened. Hope this will cure the problem. In the meantime, booked in to get the timing sorted. Do you know if this can be done without the use of a strobe at home. I was thinking about marking the distributor point just in case I encountered problems, but I wondered wether I could in fact try to rectify the timing at home as I can't get this done until the 4th August, which I can't sacrifice the GROWL for.
