I just couldn't help it...driving into Ripley (surrey) friday evening the community speed watch was out. I was in a stream of cars all doing about 25mph, I decided that 2nd was the right gear, so did the change and of course gave it a good blip of the throttle to get it smooth (in the TVR). The look of excitement and anticipation on their little faces was a joy followed by the look of sadness as there was noone to catch at it!!

I fully understand their cause, the driving in Ripley is appalling, but there has to be a better way surely!

Excellent. I do the same whenever possible. Wind the b@stards up. Plus, if possible, take a picture of them as you drive past - sad maybe but necessary - they usually look away when they see you doing that.

small print, naturally the passenger takes the pictures while the driver looks at the speedo etc etc

The probem in Ripley is not speeding
It's inconsiderate parking blocking view / lanes / whole village
It's inconsiderate "pushing" out of turnings
It's tailgating - whihc gets worse as traffic flows.

Still, "speed kills".

I think we should all use second gear / 29mph past such groups

My brother found some of these morons in one of the local villages. He stopped right next to them, wound down his window and took a photo. Then left 2 black lines down the road right in front of them before they had a chance to regain their composure and point the laser at him. He has a quality photo of a bunch of rather bemused/startled looking numpties in fluorescent jackets

If you have the time, why not stop and ask them to take you out for a quick drive so you can see how well they drive.......

That is the problem, you are always going somewhere and doing something useful, meanwhile 'they' have all the time in the world, to wind you up!

Actually I'm not so sure there is a problem in Ripley. Sure there's some dodgy parking but that slows traffic naturally - much better than numpties with a laser gun. As for people 'pushing' out - it is a village, you shouldn't expect to burn through unimpeded. That's why they built the bypass.

The BEST thing to do with these strokers is to turn up mob handed in a white transit, all bomber jacketed up and booted.

Park a few feet down the road, all pile out and start filming them with a video camera.

Then just as they're getting up the bottle to ask who you are, all pile back in the van and drive off.

Sh1ts them right up.

Don't worry, they soon tire of it once they realise the worst culprits are the villagers themselves

I love that idea!

Alternatively stop not far in front of them and do the biggest smokiest burnout you can muster, if you did it right you could create one hell of a smoke screen and still not go over 30!

Ah yes, funnily enough I was reading something or other about this. One village was catching people from the next village up, who promptly got their own speed camera thing and caught the people from the first village...... They all got pretty p***ed off, and paid their taxes....

But they have absolutely no legal standing and can do nothing with any readings they might get, so just treat them as the joke they are. Those sort of people just hate to be laughed at, so stop and laugh at them.

Nah! I use first as I get much more noise and wheelspin followed by booming pops and bangs.

I agree. Otherwise a five second long horn blast to give them what the Doppler Efeect sounds like would get annoying if it happened a few times a day.

The other option would be to park somewhere quite legally so everyone has to slow to more round you thus showing them how they are wasting their time.\

For added fun bring a deckchair, open it up and sit next to them!

To be quite honest, I am at this point surprised that some stressed out white van man hasn't kicked seven shades out of them.
