Well, with the glorious weather we had today when i'm sure you were all out with the roofs down, i got up this morning and thought i'd give my p&j a good clean so here goes.
approx 10.45 start by a good clean and chamois (sp)
put car back in garage so as to be out the sun (instructions for rest said for car to be in the shade)
meguiars quick detailer and clay bar took me about 2hrs (so not that quick )
maguiars 3 stage, paint cleaner, polish and wax took me at least an hour each coat.
I finally came indoors at around 7.45 this evening but must say the Chim looks absolutely gorgeous it's now in the garage with the cover over it as i wasn't wanting too take it out and spoil all my hard work.
I was just wondering how long on average everyone spends cleaning there p&j??
Glyn.

That old bucket of yours still going then Glyn?

Hoped we may have seen you down at the Old Barn today?

Only 6 cars turned up in the end...though it does make for a more high speed enjoyable drive.

Back of the class for me then: I think I've washed it half a dozen times in the last year but polishing it just wears the paintwork out, so I've never done that! But I do drive it most days. Even though it's a second car it's been to France a couple of times and the Isle of Arran in the same time.

I did exactly the same last weekend (Meguiar's clay bar, 3-stage polish) and then finshed off with the Autoglym extra gloss protection. I also cleaned and sealed the alloys, re-blackened the tyres, polished the windows and the metalwork.

Next weekend, it's going into Austec for an engine clean and then I'm going to get my polishing cloths out.

Note to self: get out more

one day every two months does it for me. I was interested in the comment re Autoglym Extra Gloss. I used to use that too but got the impression that it weakens the durability of the wax if you apply it to a carnauba waxed surface (I use Meguiars High tech yellow wax #26 - ideal for dark coloured paint). Maybe this is physicochemical nonsense but it seemed to be good at the time but within a few days the lusture was way 'thinner' that if the carnauba was left as the top layer. It would be interesting to analyse the Autoglym applicator pad and see how much of the expensive carnauba coat was on this rather than on the car!!

Hmm, owned the new one for 3 weeks, washed her once. That is a quick wash and the leather cleaner out.

Don't honestly have time for much more than that.

My old one got a monthly clean, the morning of the club meets, and was still dirty by the time I got there....

Spent about 3hrs yesterday washing, waxing and cleaning which is about average for the weekly going over. Makes it all worth while when strangers walk past and drop the "nice car mate" statement or stop and ask questions. Looks stunning in the sun after a liberl coat of wax.

i think that may be 4 stone, but must have been a sight to see as i had a bath towel on the roof of the car so as to wipe the sweat away, i got sunburnt on my back whilst i was washing it outside which i didn't realise till the evening, mrs Hood thought i'd p*ssed myself when i came in for one of my "take in fluid" breaks as my shorts i was wearing were drenched through.
Aircon in the garage aint a bad idea, it has a radiator in there for the winter so why not aircon.
Glyn.

My Chim wears her bugsplats as badges of honour ;-) the way they smear back from the front along the centre of the bonnet makes her look like shes racing even when standing still :-)

Andy, I used to live and work on Arran- Whiting Bay on the east coast.
My sister & family still live there. Where did you stay? Broderick?

I drove up there from London in the Chimaera last summer and two years before too. Not doing it this year but the car & I will be there next Easter.

Apologies for hijacking the thread somewhat!

Arran's been a bolthole of mine for many years now. I haven't stayed in Brodick, but I've spent many happy hours in Duncan's Bar (as was) waiting for the ferry home. Haven't stayed in Whiting Bay either, used to stay up at Catacol, but more recently we've been staying at Kildonan.

Hijack over, sorry!
