problem...

i got windows mediaplayer an it plays certain wmv files ok, but upon loading another wmv file it tells me that it requires a download.

but as that would take 38 mins to get, i wonder if theres another prog that can downloaded to play all wmv files without needing a long download?

after all, i dont need a fancy big prog which do many multi-media things which i dont need - just one thats upto date enough to play all wmv's so that i can at least see what certain files contain.

Try 'Media Player Classic' - it's a 2.2Mb download and I've not found a file type it won't play yet. Leagues ahead of Media Player but without all the frills.

Whatever player you have you'll still need the codecs installed to interpret a video using non standard compression. You'll need to get hold of Nimo Lite or the Ace Codec Pack and install either of them, Then any WMV player will do the job.

you know that sounded real good...until i went to use it !

for upon downloading it just now as file 'mpc2kxp6490.zip' - i extract its 'exe' file, an then double-click it, BUT THEN GET A RUNTIME ERROR!

which states...

MPLAYERC caused an exception 40000015H in module MPLAYERC.EXE at 016f:006c9a4e.

VLC really is very good and plays loads of stuff as standard without all that nonesence about downloading codecs - if you haven't tried it yet, give it a go.

You only need to download it once, VLC is very good, sometimes other codecs are used, but am on adsl and not care about the time it takes, you only need to download it once, so quit whining and get VLC
