Rattle from gearbox at low rpm?
Discussion
Lads,
looking for your help here - my Boxster has developed a slight rattle from the engine bay which only occurs at around the 1000 rpm mark especially if asking for torque (i.e. accelerating in town in 4th). Have not had this on the Boxster before but it reminds me of an unsynchronised set of gears as experienced in Mk. 1 Elises. All is well at higher rpms. This is the first gearbox on a 63k mile 2002 non-S.
Do I need to get myself on the OPCs calender? Am I in for a new gearbox?

Could it be engine knock from low octane fuel ... ?
I think I can rule that out since it happens independent of whether I go for 98 or 95 octane.
Also, I'm not sure how engine knock would sound - the rattling does have a rather mechanical sound to it
so does engine knock - just a thought.

Oh completely standard.
They have a fix - talk to your OPC.
I think more details are something like "car cold, engine at 2,400 rpm".
It's a tiny ball bearing that's the wrong size. Absolutely no problem. Fixed under warranty.
I'll see if I can dig out the Porsche reference bulletin....

Hello
Try pushing the clutch down and reving car up then see if it does it if not then gearbox is cause if it still the same then its not the gearbox...if it is all parts are available for the 2.5 and 2.7 litre gearboxes as they are audi gearboxes.
Probably the oil pump relief valve is chattering think this was a recall from opc....just worth a check.
Thanks
