TVR warranty and inspection
Discussion
Does anyone know how much the used TVR warranty inspection costs? My Tamora has clocked 23000 miles of (almost)trouble free driving - the blemish was the fuel pump relay failing - wow, big deal! However it's MOT/service time, and I have to consider the possibility of a top end failure in the next year of motoring. Since a warranty is considerably cheaper than a rebuild, what do the S6 fraternity say? Is mine the oldest TVR still waiting for that dreaded event (four years and counting!!)

Not sure on the costs, but would imagine it's around the £1400 mark, including the inspection (not so educated guess!)
Funnily enough, I was thinking of doing the same, as I am coming up to roughly the same mileage and year (?)(with the engine as yet untouched), and my thoughts are also turned to the possibility of a top ender at the service,
It would be intersting to know if the warranty covers both parts and labour, if not, and the warranty is around £1500, and I have to cough up another £2-2.5K for labour, then it would not be worth it (Was told a top end should not cost any more than £4K if no other damage has been done)

I would envisage that TVR official warranty would fully cover the costs of a rebuild, although I would like to hear from anyone who nhas used their warranty for a rebuild, and were they presented with a supplementary bill?
i know that a Tamora was sold recently having had the warranty inspection done, but not with an actual waranty, so that's the cost i was wondering about - the warranty is indeed about £1300 IIRC.

Hi Guys
I got the warranty in January this year. My Tamora is March 2002 and has just gone in for it 36k service (no engine trouble yet).
The inspection is about £100 (couple of hours labour) by an authorised dealer and you then need to put absolutely everything right with it before they will sell you the warranty (which cost me about £1k!).
I got a warranty for 24 months (slightly cheaper than 2 x 12month policies) which I think cost about £2,000. There is an additional premium to add on for wear and tear to the policy (which is optional) at a couple of hundred quid but I would imagine well worth the extra as I the insurance company would try anything to get out of paying for a rebuild (i.e. engine blew up due to wear and tear!).
The policy does cover parts and labour but doesn't cover consumales (tyres, brake pads etc, although the clutch is covered).
So far I haven't had to use it but the piece of mind was well worth the expense in my opinion, as I do not have a bottomless pit of cash and a rebuild would have been disasterous and possibly fatal to my TVR ownership experience!
Hope this covers everything you wanted to know. Let me know if you there is anything else you wanted that I didn't cover.
All the best

Great post Ceecee - I'll certainly book an inspection at service time.
ETA - does the warranty cover the clutch as a normal claim, or do you need the wear and tear option for that to be covered?
Another point - a Speed 6 engine on 36000 miles with no rebuild - is this a record?

Moonlighting from Tuscan forum.
My son bought a 2003 Tamora a month ago from a private seller. Prior to completing purchase, he had it inspected by a TVR dealer (about £150), the seller duly paid for the small faults found (£550 of brake pads/diff mounting), and the dealer then approved the issue of a 12 month full warranty covering wear and tear on behalf of the insurance company. Recall the policy was around £1350 for the full cover.
Understand that the insurance company were a little concerned about issuing new policies whilst the "rumours" about TVR abounded but are now OK on the subject.
Just FYI, prior to buying his current Tamora, he had another one inspected by a different TVR dealer - the various faults found on that car came to over £2500 (iirc) - the seller immediately said he would pay for all the repairs but my son was then very appehensive about the car and decided not to proceed. He decided that losing the £150 inspection fee was a small price to pay for not going ahead on the car.

I have just paid for the TVR warranty including wear and tear for 1 year. Just under £1300 with the 100 point inspection costing £150. Not used it yet so not sure what is covered under the 'wear and tear' bit. According to the garage, it does cover most things. Good value me thinks...

Flagpole can I ask where you got your warranty from at this price I have been quoted more like £1700
cheers

I was scouting around and found these prices - www.dhcars.co.uk/tvrWarrt1.htm - £1347 with wear and tear, £1197 without.
as you know I recently bought my T350 from Westover sports cars in Poole. The car had 6 months warranty on it remaining and they chucked in anp 12 months of there own aswell when bought it. So I assume they must of checked it themselves first otherwise they would of never issued warranty.
I asked how much it would to renew and I was told 1k a year. That sounds cheap now.

I answer to your question I think the clutch failure was covered under the normal warranty but again I think if you go ahead you should pay that bit extra for the wear and tear as I think a replacement clutch would be difficult to claim unless it was covered with the W&T.
The policy prices increase on the age and mileage of the car. I think the chepeast available (TVR approved warranty) is for cars under 5 years old and less than 50,000 miles (next band 8 years and 80k).

I got the warranty in february and paid about £1350 i think, which included the wear and tear. The inspection was another £120 (2 hours labour). I needed about £1000 worth of stuff doing to get the warranty, including a leaky clutch slave, which apparently was very labour intensive. While they were doing the slave, they noticed the clutch was reasonably worn so i decided to have a new clutch fitted at the same time as it cut down on labour. I think the total bill came to over £4000 (which includes the cost of the warranty)!!
So far i've had a new radiator fitted under warranty, no questions asked. I think i only had to pay about £70 for the little things like hoses etc. (obviously the warranty company only pays for the actual radiator).
Hope this helps!

Holly Sh1t - I may aswell of bought a b100dy Ferrari. In fact, looking at these prices I am seriously thinking about it now.
Let me get something straight here. I bought from a dealer and have GOT! Warranty. Can I not take it to a TVR garage before the warranty expires and get a complete survey carried out (at my expense) for them to tell me exactly what needs attention / replacing on the car, THEN… get them to fix it all under my current warranty? That way, I can then renew my warranty knowing full well that the car is perfect order, therefore there is no chance of me getting hit with a stupid bill when it comes round to warranty renewal time.
Sense? or am I P1ssing in the wind?

Hence the reason why i think it's very important to get the warranty! If i had enough money i would have got the 2 year warranty like ceecee did, although i'm fairly sure you still have to get another inspection after the first year?!?
Having the warranty also makes the car much more desirable if you decide to sell it i would say!
Edited cos you've just asked a similar question to what i was wondering!
