Just picked the car up last night after a week in the garage getting some alterations and repairs. Driving to work this morning I end up with the the pleasure of watching a 3 series in my rear view mirror drive straight into the back of me.

I'm stationary, the chimaera is bright yellow and the V8 can't be called subtle. Yet still this BMW drive totally fails to see me till the last minute.

Well I think I managed to crack his number plate. The chimaera however is another story. The rear ends a real mess with the boot about a foot smaller than it use to be.

The only good thing I can say is that the boot sure is a good crumply zone. The car may have been knocked forward a foot or two but I didn't really feel it.

Bright yellow and he still coudn't see you, what a numpty!!!!!!!

I'd be bloody furious, I know the conditions were shite this morning, which is all the more for taking it easy!!!!!

I hope the Chim gets better soon. Watch out for the whiplash that you will soon feel and that impending courtcase for damages that you will have to follow with

Man that stinks. Sorry to hear about your motor - do you think its terminal ? I suppose thats the problem with driving a sofa, you can fall asleep at the wheel.
As long as you're OK - let us know what the insurers think.

Sorry to hear about that.

The same thing happened to me a little over a year ago. Was at the back of a tail back, which placed me just over the top of a flyover. A 5 series flying up the flyover didn't see the tailback til the last minute, and completely eliminated my boot. (The cheeky b@stard then backed up, and drove off, leaving me to give chase in my newly converted Chimaera hatchback. Got him after a couple minutes of Hawaii Five 0 style driving.) His car was virtually unscathed. Beemers may be more robust than TVRs, but only a fool (with no insurance as it turns out) would try to outdrive one...

Anyway, the moral of this story is, when you get your backend rebuilt, get a long guarantee for the work done on it. Since mine's been done, the boot lid has gradually been misaligning with the catch, meaning that I have to slam the boot 3 or 4 times before it sticks.

Man that totally sucks...

It happens all too often: too many tailgating to55ers and the fact that chims are low and dont have 4square metres of brake light coverage.

So gutting that some dumbfcuk messes up your pride and joy by being a dozy c***. Its making me mad just thinking about it.

You have my sympathy...

it happened to me once. was stationary at lights and got whacked by a white van. pulled over to excange detaisl and he sped off. there were 2 police cars just before the lights but wasn't sure if they saw so set off and gave chase to get number plate and phoned police.
they caught him within a couple of mins and he jumped out of van and ran.
he ended up in court as no insurance etc.
i had legal cover etc and got it all back with injury cost

The thought of this has just had me in stitches. Sounds like right out of a Bond film.... Feel sorry for you, but cool story nonetheless!!

Got a witness, another BMW , so no chance of a tall story on his part. The roads where slick but thats no real excuse. We where just leaving wokingham town centre, in rush hour traffic, so it was stop/start in a 30 zone. The guy was just fast sleep on his sofa.

She's just been dropped off at a TVR bodyshop. Entire new rearend required and no-longer road legal due to both light clusters hanging by their wires. Boot lid's fine though there's nothing left to attach it to. I've only had her a month and it looks like she's going to be a month in the garage.

On the plus side I've gone for one of these help hire claims companies as direct line ain't interested in providing a hire car until they've worked out liability with the third party. Help hire have promised me something equivilent, in their books thats a 911, if they can pull it off I won't be grumbling about the loan car.

Happenned to me once too! I was in my 3 series and there was this low down TVR thing going too slow in front of me. I kept my distance down to a sensible 4 feet until the idiot broke outside a school giving me no chance!

Only trying to make you laugh! Really sorry to hear about it! Hope it gets fixed soon.....

They said that to me too, and due to 'unavailability' and waiting for parts, my Chimaera spent 3 months in the shop, while I spent 3 months in an unliveried white courtesy Corsa with no hubcaps. (The accident happened 24 hours after I met my current missus. Understandably, 3 months into the relationship, she became convinced that the Corsa was really my car, and I'd only hired the TVR for the day to impress her.)

Glad my tale of woe brings a smile to your face, AllTorque. I suppose looking back, it was pretty funny. Especially when I had to climb through the guys sun roof when he eventually stopped, because he didn't want to open his door to me. He was still trying to mount the pavement when my legs were sticking out the roof.

Thank goodness for witnesses come court time...

Your right, you've got to laugh as it sure beets the alternative. Just thinking of what his insurance company are going to say when the see the bill helps. Besides if help hire come up with the 911 I intend to enjoy myself fully.

I suppose I was lucky the guy was prepared to stop and be held accountable given some of the replies I've seen.

Don't wanna stereotype Beemer drivers, but the majority of them are just totally oblivious to any other f**ker on the road. They just fly along and presume that ABS and traction control will take care of them. I'm talking about the reps in a company 318 by the way. I know theres alot of us (not me tho) that have beemers as second cars!

Commiserations on your baby though, hope it gets sorted quickly and painlessly.

Yep, when I hop out the Griff and into the 323 I plug my independent mind into the twatty-driver socket on the dashboard and BMW-idiocy takes over from there.
