I've just spent the whole morning visiting six Japanese breakers yards in the Birmingham area, I have also contected several by phone or email across the country. Without exception every single one was run by Asians, is there a reason for this?
What has happened to the traditional "Dodgy Pikey scrapman"?
Have they moved into IT Consultancy?

Been killed off by regulations.

You seen how much work you have to do to get a scrap yard to pass muster these days? No money in it...

Maybe they sold their businesses at huge profit and had the sense to vacate the country in favour of more sunny climes.

It's very quiet around here at the moment though ... not seen a pikey train for months. Where do they go in the winter? Camping in the South of France? Back to visit family in Ireland/wherever. Maybe they have winter sites like fairgrounds do.

I think the original question wasn't 'where are all the pikeys?', but rather, 'where are all the pikey scrappers?'

Not enough cash in it if they have to abide by current regulations, so I guess its Tarmac R Us instead.

P.S. They've probably all moved in with TallChris by now :ducks:
