Granite worktops in kitchens, sparkly or not???

Thought I'd put this one to the vote:
I want a sexy black granite worktop in a new kitchen but absolutely must not have big sparkly, girly, silver bits in it.
Am I being a miserable git and is this all the rage these days?

refused to go for the sparkly bits ... knew it would start to bug me, would constantly be thinking there was sugar spilt on it ....

Im not going to tell you what you should and should not like, but
plain black Granite without sparkly bits as you put it is boring...
Ive just ( a few months back) had some Black Galaxy worktops put in my new place and I can tell you that when the kitchen lights are on it is stunning the flecks are picked out fasntastically.
If you don't like it, then don't let the opinions of a bunch of anonymous people on a motoring website change your mind!
Saying that, we've recently had a black granite worktop with sparkly bits fitted and it looks ace! My girlfriend was initially reluctant to even consider the sparkly ones, but she was swayed after seeing one in the flesh.

We were dead set on gold flecked black granite for a long while but eventually decided that plain black would (a) look classier, (b) not date so quickly and as an added bonus (c) cost less.
As it is, there is a subtle sparkle in the black that looks lovely when the sunlight catches it and complements the slight sparkle in the slate floor as well.
As with most things, beauty is in the eye of the beholder but note that a 3" square sample of stone won't tell you what a kitchen's worth will look like in situ. If you can, try to get a look at some installed examples or at least realistically large slabs.

We used Kwacker / A&C Stoneworks and can thoroughly recommend them (3 days start to finish, i.e. templating to installation)

or ebay and get high end stuff for £12 per m2
We have nero assouloto (black with no flecks), looks great but is a cnut to keep clean & mark free. Have a look for nero nebula(I think thats the name) black with very vivid blue slices of granite in certain light, flat black in other light, twas the one i wanted but the missus said it would clash with the bright red smeg fridge.

Same here. Top tip: get one of those microfiber cloths - you know, the ones that are basically fake chamois leathers. Then just a sponge down with clean water and a quick wipe over with the cloth and it comes up looking like new every time for almost zero effort.

Pic? I've got traditional style buttermilk kitchen units (in storage) and have no idea what work surface to have - thinking in terms of butchers block but can't decide.
Mmm yes please, Mr E has decided he wants gloss lemon kitchen doors in our new place and it's either a case of a strong dark contrasting work top or wood - some ideas would be gratefully received!
