Quick question, one of my PAS hoses is on it's way out, its the low pressure return from the rack back up to the reservoir, any idea what spec of hose is needed to replace it? hould heater matrix hose do the job, its fluid resistant and can handle a fair pressure?

Hell no, it won't take any pressure and doesn't have an oil resistent liner. You need hydraulic hose, it isn't particularly expensive.

Hell no,
Hell No and ooh dear. It's what I've used and has been fine for the last two years. The only reason I recently replaced it was because the heat from the exhaust manifolds was making it brittle; I've subsequently insulated the area affected. The bore of the old hose showed no adverse signs such as perishing or disolving and the fluid always remained clear. I had enquired as the hoses suitability and been assured it'd be fine; not sayin' I won't be keeping an eye on it though and this aint a recommendation for using the stuff. So where do people get the 'right stuff' from then coz I aint found any.

No, that aint cheap. I fitted one of 'V8 Centres' pressure hoses to mine last year for the delivery side and that was £75 delivered. It has the swaged 180 degree elbow thereby reducing leakage from that particular trouble spot; still seemed pricey though. I've no idea what the return pressure can rise to but wouldn't expect it to be a huge figure.

The pressure line is a custom hose made by pirtek with a 90deg elbow to the rack and a union onto the pump all swaged and covered in fireproof heatshield, which I had made up before the start of the season. That and a pair of custom swaged hoses for the oil cooler came to £70.

The low pressure lines were ok then, they're not now. (dont know what spec hose they were though)

Go to a hydraulic pipe supplier and get some redline or red stripe hose. Ideal stuff.

Thanks for the replies, it seems heater hose will do the job but hydraulic is the best way to go. Becasue cash is very tight, I'm going to just replace it with heater hose until payday, then go to Pirtek and get the proper stuff, complete with heat shielding.

It's fairly urgent as the hose is seeping and if it lets go will send ATF all over the exhaust...
